A sub almost always radiates in 2 pi, but a top radiates more likely in 4 pi. The lowsection of the Xtro consists of 2 BPH. So the simulation of a single BPH in 2 pi will be close to the actual performance of the Xtro's lowsection.

the thing is that I consider that a sub should still couple with the ground within 1 wavelenght of the frequency band, so I modeled the x-tro in 1 pi because even at 200Hz the top is still close enough to the ground to benefit from half space conditions

1pi= 2 midbass horns  in halfspace= 1 x-tro positioned above 2 punishers

I maybe wrong , but tests until now seem to confirm my teory

Funny thing, kappa and sm115 give me the almost the same results

The sad par is te 3mm excursion at 90hz for the kappas  (and the Xmax is 1.6)

Here's the pic for the kappa

For the beyma is "the same", it just moves 2hz from bottom end and 3hz for upper end.

Cheers

I mean; What did those test involve (what was the setup, conditions, etc.) that you can say they confirm your theory?

there was a hd15 type bass suspended in air

I ve discovered that you don't have to put the sub right on the ground to gain the extra dB (I did not have a measurement system at that time so No actual numbers.)

I did the test after I saw that many of the sound companies lift their subs on tables during the concert

Do any of the McCauley 15" have suitable parameters for the famed Xtro.

@Nexus

i've only used hornresp to try out some bass horn ideas, how do you compare two designs like that?

Hi all !

For a couple of years now my drumfills (drum monitor loudspeakers) are 15inch mids from 100-1000Hz.

So I recon the speakers tested suite the xtro, too. Good results were achieved by using

the old RCF L15P801 in Monacor/Harmonic Design horns 22x22x15",

the older JBL 2220H and

the very old JBL2220A, in PublicAudio- horns sized 17x17x11".

Next will be B&C 15PLB76 (short excursion, ferrite), and 15NDL76, in the larger horns. The short ones will stay horn monitors for good, but AJHorn 5 suggests the JBL speakers  near perfect in the larger ones as well.

I also consider B&C 15NW76, BMS 15S420, 15P200, 15N620 and 15N820 very interesting for this low/midrange use. The SAMMI SR15A380 should be fine, too.

Maybe someone expirienced the Bxx in horns like the xtro already, pls let us know.

@Rengade Project: I did not have the chance to test McCauley 15" yet.

Cheers.

Mike Severloh.

 Hi again,

I forgot

the BMS 15S320, the older Solton CRAAFT 15XR600 (very lightweight moving parts), and the ancient workhorses JBL D130, and RCF L17P/64 AF(used successfully live in the PublicAudio horns).

Wink

Mike.
