planning to build a small rig that consists of 2x186 horns loaded with 2 fane colossus 18xb drivers
2x15" inch bins(not sure on drivers) and a !2" ported reflex
can anyone recommend me an amplifier for this type of setup(also a crossover and what a cross over is used for, i've spent a few hours now looking but still can't find what these do?)

Fane Colossus 18XB is completely the wrong driver for a tight horn loaded cabinet--They are designed to be used in a ported direct radiating type of sub so should never be used in either 1850 or 186 design of cabinets.
You really need to either rethink what driver to use or change your choice of cabinet as the cones will disintegrate if used wrongly.

A large vented box works wonders for these drivers. they are precise and musical, they just need enough space to breathe (400liters maybe, in a strong box). Not sure about scoops as they are rear horns but I would think they would do better than in a horn. If you have £1500 spare Ken hughes is selling 4x beautiful bins loaded with these.... I am tempted myself...

If you want to play techno go with horns and skip the drivers on elsewhere, if its bass music (D&B dub reggae etc) then relfex or scoops will suffice.

As far as amps go, you're 17 so you're skint. Take a look at the Behringer NX4-6000 or the NX6000 or NX3000 on Thomann.de. (or if you have a bit more to spend maybe consider the T.amp offerings from Thomann, they're supposed to be decent)The 4 channel amp will run your tops and kick bins, or your full range and a pair of subs, very useful for the money and saves space. I recently got one Bstock for 275 delivered. The 6000 and 3000 come in a Dsp (digital sound processing) form as well so you can combine a crossover into the amps.

An active crossover (what you need) is basically a way for you to split the music into BASS/MID/TOP and send these separate signals to the amps that drive the speakers responsible for these frequencies. It means you can control the music with precision and your amps and drivers only work on what you want them to. saves power for better output and a host of other benefits.

many of the new digital amps have this built in. this saves rack space and the need for more power cables. I recently decide to stick with my old digital signalling rather than go onboard because I like my kit, but it's all going onboard now..

If you have more cash you can look at the JAM series from bluearan.co.uk. I have been pointed toward them and the stats for the cash look really good.

the t.racks ds 2/4, i spoke to the person who designed the cubo series of speakers thinking a few of them would run a party and he said that cross over would be good to power 4.

You are supposed to be spending as little as possible due to being 17.

ceharden is offering a free box in which will cut the cost of building a box

Behringer Inuke Amplifiers will give you all the necessary requirements (On board DSP and respectable power) to get the job done.

You are supposed to be moving about with seasoned sound men. They always have old equipment that they no longer use. If they take a liking to you, they will just give it to you free. Even if they don't give it to you free, they will give you a real low price due to you being an up and coming sound man.

As time goes by, you upgrade. You have a lot of time to create an ideal sound system once you complete school and use your degree to attain a well paying job.

Best Regards,

wish i could get to Southampton to collect it just live to a little to far and have no way of reaching it, which is annoying. no one from my area in my age group is remotely interested in sound/music like i am, would be a lot cheaper splitting the bill with someone while i learn more stuff but that is  not the case. but thank you for linking me cabinet i appropriate the help that i am getting from all of you
