Hi everyone, im quite new to the professional sound scene, just had my first experience with it and bought some RCF Event 4000s and Matrix amp.

My question is why does no one rate Martin Audio, i always thought that they were good systems but i dont see to much love about them on the forum, is there any reason for this????

It seems you guys are into Funktion, Void, ASS and so on why are theese better than Martin.

Ive never heard either system by the way.

Thanks

Tom

I don't think anyone is slating them, I myself have F8's and F10's and on the whole are very happy with them and their performance. They mostly get used as monitors, or on little acoustic or spoken word gigs, and do the job very well. It's just hard to get excited about a black box that isn't ground breaking, just very good

Martin make some lovely speakers. Build quality has gone down hill a little but thats not too stressful.

I can't wait to hear this MLA system. I know there has been a lot of hype about it but i'm genuinely interested to hear what the complete integration of control speaker and amplifier does to the effective deployment of a line array.

No-one slates Martin gear here, and the people into older systems love some of their more historic models.

I see them as higher end install stuff mostly, not very exciting as mentioned.

Perhaps its just me getting the wrong end of the stick, i have always liked them, sort of something to aspire to if you get me.

Im not saying people are slating them, its just i see more recommendations of other manufactures.

What makes them not exciting??

Sorry if this is infuriating but just trying to learn as much as i can.

hey

no i think martin audio is well liked on here. Historically, things like the phillishaves paved the way for great sound and their current point source boxes, as has been said, aren't often ground breaking technology wise but they always sound great.

However their line arrays, in my opinion at least, are fantastic. Longbow and the W8L family take joint first place for me in a three way tie with l'acoustics and meyer as the top line array systems.

After that it just comes down to each system having its own character and subtle sound differences and then what your personal preference is.

And MLA from the reports seems to be a massive leap forward for them and, if everything is true, steps them out ahead of the pack and makes them top overall.

(although again, once you get to this level the quality is always second to none no matter what system and it then comes down to personal preference and engineer ability. I'm sure plenty of people would argue for K1 to be top and MLA second Smile)

I think my first post was a bit too arrogant, it was just a shock to go from hearing loads abouth them elsewhere and then not seeing too many recommendations and what not. (due to my lack of time on the forum i suppose)

Judging by what you have all said these line arrays look impressive, ill have to google em.

Thanks for putting me straight.

well respected company.

Their heritage equipment has serious love from almost everyone in the industry. The martin modular kit is still good by todays standards which is saying something for equipment which is 30+ years old.

The current point source stuff (W8C,WSX, etc) is very good and few people would complain about engineering or performing on it is though perhaps not quite as good as current offerings from Turbosound or Void.

The big line array gear is as good as it gets and anyone with enough money to buy it would be mad not to consider it as an alternative to L'accoustic or Meyer.
me so horny, me love you long throw.

In the 70's Martin were the company to choose, there simply wasn't anything else to compare...towards the end of that decade ASS,Mega, and Turbosound offered an alternative with the same attention to detail and build quality.

Timeline,i think you will find there are a lot of fans of the vintage Martin gear on this site,me being one of them,in the 70's and 80's they made some of the best PA gear in the world...a lot of it is still in use today,30 years on.

Re, the current range, today there is simply lots of other brands to chose from.
Be seeing you.

Unfortunately, Martin Audio is regarded by a lot of people as not being fashionable due to being  plain looking and a little old fashioned in their designs as it is not an "in your face" type of product such as Funktion One, Void or even Turbosound.
Having said that, they still turn out some cracking cabinets and in the last few years, Wavefront has been popular along with the Longbow line arrays and just because a product is just a plain old black box does not make it an inferior in sound quality when compared to Purple and Silver or Red cabinets---People still buy sound equipment based on looks and a lot of people never use their ears.
