They would probably work quite well if you replace the upper panel and tweeter with a horn and 1" driver (if you can find one to fit) and run them 3-way active.

Yes, you never know. With a proper (modern) DSP you could make them work again. I would definitely get a 1" driver & horn in there. How many do you have?

Haha - I meant how many of those cabs do you have!  LOL

In any case, those Fostex look very similar to the Selenium DT150!

I have a few of those in some cabs & they are pretty good. You can get titanium, or phenolic diaphragms for them, according to taste. I found the titanium a bit harsh & prefer the phenolic. In any case, I reckon that they would be better than the thing tacked on there at the moment. Maybe 2 per cab with a Y adaptor.   Smile

LOL I have 2 cabs

Exact what I was thinking, putting two in there, do you mean the Y piece like a piece of plumbing hardware?
These are no threaded compression drivers, rather one unit. magnet and horn with diaphragm squished in-between.

(I also like to avoid the harsher sound of titanium diaphragms)

Ok, shame that they are not threaded. I'm not sure how you could do it then. Maybe lots of epoxy resin, hahaha.

Screw-on Y adaptor:-

They were also available for bolt-on drivers/horns, but are now quite rare.

Fane Studio 12B
Fane Studio 8M
Beyma CP-21F

Crossover writing:
MODEL HL 612 B
Verbiest 1985
MADE IN BELGIUM
(and the company still exists today, same logo http://www.verbiest.be/)

and someone closed up the reflex shelf port (guaranteed the same butcher who did the tweeter)

Ok, I'm not a big fan of Fane drivers, but given the frequencies the cab covers, they may do the job. And that isn't a bad quality tweeter either, but definitely not there. Total horrible bodge. And wrong dispersion pattern for that cab.   Dead

I may want to measure the internal volumes to find some nice speakers to fit the specs needed. I read the 12B would be well suited for horns.

I have simulated reflex cabs, are the horns more difficult to sim?

What tweeter dispersion angle would be more suited for this cab style?

Yes, I think that horn loaded design is quite a bit more complicated. You maybe need to get Hornresp & spend a bit of time learning the process.

You want a hf horn that matches the other 2 there already. Maybe 60º? The CP-21F is 140º. Far too wide.

I installed Hornresp on my Linux (virtual XP) and got some results.

The response for the 8" BLH looks to be too low to be real, especially with the tweeter 7500 Hz filter...

grey reference sealed box 15l. (on axis for sealed the response stays level across higher freq, could ot select directivity for the horn though)

The 12 gives this next result, looks better but still not much above 1kHz, realistic enough?

Compound Horn with the tapered reflex port

Same driver in sealed chamber BLH gives higher but rimpled response, less SPL below 200Hz, seems more plausible than the 8"

I tried with other 8" drivers T.S. with similar results, any pointers, or is this cabinet just a crappy design?
