It was such a long time ago when the changeover happened I wouldn't have a clue. When I saw the the first PD1550 on a Turbosound Stand at an early Plasa show, I knew I had to have them. Certain Fane models were unbeatable at the time especially for the money. Befor the PD's went in, it was JBL. They proved to be too delicate, especially for the Early Rave scene, which was always flat out, the same as today really.

Hi Tony. What do you think of the fane collosus 15xb, if you've had any experience with it of course? It is a much louder and more powerful than the original 400w collosus, but are there any differences in application?

I would say the PD1550's are a lot harder hitting than the Fane Colossus probably making them better for dance music but i thought the Fane had a really nice warm sound to them which we loved!! Maybe making them better for band application?

When you can look back over many years, the only conclusion you can come to, is that it was the best decision on the day. Advancements are made and you move with the times.

I wouldn't have a clue regarding performance. You can get a good idea from a spec as to its suitability for a particular type of cab, but the only way I have ever chosen a speaker is to buy it and try it out. It's cost me a bit in the past, but first hand knowledge is better than speculation and guesswork.
