Hello everybody,
I've been in around these forums for quite some time now and i finally decided to join. Anyway, can someone let me know which one of these horns is the B52 18-200sl more suitable for??? I'm new to these horns and i cant decide which one to take up the challenge and building as i can't find the spec sheet for the driver. Any advice will be most welcomed.... Thanks in advance |

Without knowing the parameters for the driver it is hard to determine which cab would be more suitable.
I'm sorry...........gotta ask......your user name is Dj's lick dicks? Even if that is an incorrect assumption, I can't help thinking others might think the same and find it inappropriate, or have a laugh. If its Dj Slick, I might suggest changing it from Djslickdks to DjSlickDks or something. Just a thought. |

Reality sound,
I can't really see how you can get that name out of my username but for your sake i will change it. Thanks for the advice anyway. I cant seem to find the parameters anywhere though. I've tried their site but i still got nothing. Maybe it's probably because they were removed from their dual 18" subwoofer model fx1818s. These are bass reflex style cabinets so i was wondering if placing dem in a sealed chamber such as the 186 or 1850 would be of any harm to them. |

I couldn't find the parameters either. Is this is the driver that came out of the B52? The folded horn that looks like a cerwin vega? If you have a B52 cab to look at, you could calculate the volume of the sealed chamber and if its small- then a 1850, if its big then build a 186.
Try emailing the manufacturer and asking for the thiele parameters, sometimes they're helpful. |

Here is the link to the enclosure:
http://www.kpodj.com/b52-fx1818s-p-100272/ What figure is large and what figure is small?? I have 8 of these enclosures on hand so i can measure the chamber myself. I emailed the manufacturer and its been months but im still waiting on a reply. Thanks for the fast reply |

So, let me get this straight, you plan on stripping the drivers out of your doubles and building new cabs for them?

These are more suited for enclosed events like in halls, church, etc but i want about 4 folded horns for long throw applications. That's the main reason i want to build the horns.

They look like a solid cab to me,...do they not sound good? I gotta be honest, generally if you get a driver out of a reflex style cab, it's usually designed for a reflex style cab,...and probably won't sound AWESOME in a tight chamber folded horn (or won't last long). (they're are some exceptions mind you) I would imagine those reflex drivers would have an EBP under 125 which would suggest an 186 would be better suited. If you look....-http://www.speakerplans.com/index.php?id=1850horn -half way down it says 'suitable drivers' and explains a bit on what drivers are better for what cab etc,- again difficult to tell if you don't know the parameters of the driver, but the odds of it having a BL over 28 and a EBP over 125 are very slim. So 186 be your best bet.
Then again, if your looking for change, then sell your cabs loaded, and spend some money on better drivers. ![]() |

They do sound good but not as impressive as folded horns i have heard. I tried going the route of selling these to buy better drivers but where i'm living that is easier said than done.
What bass reflex enclosure would you recommend though?? I know you won't be able to make a definite decision because the parameters are missing but based on the fact that the drivers came from a bass reflex cabinet i guess that would be the way to go. I was also thinking about this Mini Scooper 18 listed here: http://www.freespeakerplans.com/bass-cabinets/30-super-scooper-18q - http://www.freespeakerplans.com/bass-cabinets/30-super-scooper-18q
What do you think??

Don't think you'd be able to build a reflex better than the manufacturer has for those drivers. Unfortunately mini scoops/ scoops also need a similar driver than those of a folded horn. See here- http://forum.speakerplans.com/topic65235_post674154.html#674154
I think you have reached a dead end without the drivers parameters. I can't recommend anything really. Pretty sure they will work in an 186 regardless. Build a couple and try them out. (They will sound alot better in a stack of 4 mind you -mouths together-) |
