hey,
I´ve build my first two xtro´s, and now I have to load them.
I´m asking me what woofer is the better choise. I`m not sure if the B&C 15 nw76 is only a cheaper option wich isn´t as loud and kickfull. Or is the B&C 15 nw76 the better choise to load the xtro because it is louder and kickfuller?

In the cost-less-for-about-the-same, you could consider the 15NDL76.
It's at least as efficient as 15NW76 and 18S'nd 15ND930 in the 100Hz regions. Also 18S'nd 15NMB420 might work good. |

I've been looking into this lately cause I'm making the 15" section of the xtro seperately. I did get the ndl76 and tried it on my test cab that is similar to the xtro. I think that the NW76 that has a higher BL would be a better choice. Here's the hornresp plots if it's any help, for the original xtro cabinet for one 15".

The 15NW76 will work fine in the Xtro, probably minimal difference between that and the 18Sound as the plots show. I use them in other cabs and they're great.

do you think there is a big difference between the eighteensound and the ndl76 ? the eighteensound has: mms 101g, BL 23,8
and the ndl76 has: mms 96g, BL 22,5
has the eighteensound now much more kick or is it almost the same?

i reckon differences would be near indistinguishable by ear. if you can get nw76 for cheaper than the 18sound go for that option. the nw76 is a slightly more versatile driver than the ndl76 imo. if i was really concerned about getting the perfect driver i'd need to mount them both in the horn and do distortion comparisons. then i could find find out whether maybe the cone treatment is making a difference. maybe the b&c sounds sweeter higher in the range whereas the 18sound sounds better slightly lower as it acts as a piston better at lower frequencies. complete guess though, maybe im wrong and the b&c is just as rigid but not as shiny i don't think a db here or there on the frequency response curve would be the defining difference for me Edited by darkmatter - 31 July 2009 at 2:37pm |
