here are some "before" pics of a cheap fix dual 10" guitar cab that i built for a freinds band to up the guitar output a bit
the amp is a crapy PA1800X amp from Pyramid that i baught A LONG time ago. same with the Woofers, they are a pair of Pyle Pro Premium series 10" 200watt woofers. REALLY REALLY cheap, but for good use between 60hz-5khz. they really arn't THAT bad for being so cheap but... yeuck. i'll have some finished pics up soon. the cab doesn't sound too bad for a cheap build. ALOT better then what i expected. actualy sounds a bit better then the Sun Alpha 112p that they were using. anyway, heres the before pics. i'll have the finished pics for ya when i see them again. ![]() these are the guts to the PA1800X amp from Pyramid. supose to do 1,800watt at 4ohm bridged when it really only does about 700watt which makes it perfect for the project. ![]() Pair of Pyle Pro 10s. 200watt RMS/600watt Max (strangly rated) but will take about 400watt per driver with ease. ![]() LED indecater (Clip, power, protect), LED gain meters, 3.5" Piezo with builton 4.5khz highpass. rigged mono stereo switch, rigged A/B channel outputs, heavy duty power switch. all petty pieces from the pyramid amp. ![]() the pieces to the right and left are results of finished cut outs using the frame of the pyramid amp. 1/16" stamped steel, not the greatest but works for good scraps to make a amp head face and utilities for the back. the center piece shows some trace lines of where i needed to cut. the vent piece if for the top of the amp, and the oddly shaped piece was used for the front face of the amp head. end result came out to be a nice 50hz-20khz responce at 126db continous play. Cab is painted black with "Grave Yard Audio" painted across the front in white. though i used crapy stuff, it's not bad for Promo when the band does thier shows. I'm thinking about replacing the front panel and taking out the piezo, i think it's a little TOO crisp and takes a bite out of the natural sound i think. i will never again touch any of this
crap. it was a quick fix amp, spent 40 bucks building it and could care
less what happens to it now...

For the guitar, the Pyles aren't necessarily bad. Dereck Trucks uses some Pyle car stereo 10's in his amps (Fender Super Sixs, basicaly a Super Reverb with two more speakers). And now Eminence are working to clone them for other guitarists.

interesting...
like i said they son't sound bad what so ever and sound much better then the sun alpha 112p amp they were using for some time. the only thing i don't like is that i wasn't able to put a preamp in there too, didn't have one available. wish i had a better power amp to use but owell. it turned out much better then i expected anyway. |

700 watts for a guitar rig? Shades of Richie Blackmore.

it's an ouput capability of 700watts, doesn't mean it's going to be that way all the time.
i had done a free air test "outside the box" to see how well the highs come in. and at about 150-200watt it was MORE then loud enough for my liking. the rest of the power is there for suport when ever i or my freind's band needs it. |
