What do people think about a BMS 4550 compression driver with a BMS 2230 horn, with a crossover point at 900Hz, on top of two half MT 122 loaded with B&C12PE32? (I mean to build the MT 122 in three different cabinets, 2x12" + the top section)

Sounds like a good mid/top setup doesnt it? Smile

Not sure about running the 2230 horn as low as 900, 1200 is as low as I take mine. I know that the RCF (HF64 & HF94) is more expensive but IMHO it would be a better choice.

A horn still has to provide loading below the X-over frequency. By using a 48db/oct filter you could run pretty close to the horn cut-off but not that close.

I like the 2119 horn but it is not suitable for crossing that low.

Besides the RCF what would other alternatives be for the horn for loading at the required frequency?

I'm doing the same project, still deciding on components would be most interested in a horn with 60 or 40 deg horizontal dispersion so I can array 3 in one stack.

After a quick search it seems very hard to find horns that cutoff low enough... It dont love the look of the RCF, but i think I'll stick to that!

Thanks silworm!

H64   =  60° x 40°
H94   =  90° x 40°

What does the size of the throat affect?
In what situatione you'd better use a 60x40 compared to a 90x40?

On top of two 12" loaded in a MT 122 style cab, with 4 scoops underneath, which would be the best option?

If you are going to use just one MT or one per side then probably the 90, 60 is still pretty wide and would suit a lot of venues.

i have the same kind of problem at the moment deciding on a 1" horn for mt121. i did use the Celestion H1-9040P (90x40) in my X10's but crossed at 2k & in groups of 2 they were fine but im unsure if in groups of 2 mt121 crossed at 1K with the same horn will be ok?
