Has anyone any experience or thoughts on using a BMS 4590 compression driver coupled with a BMS 2230 horn (700hz cut off )
I'd like to use this combination above some fane 12" sealed mids and cross over at 1000-1100hz
but ive been told ideally i should crossover 1 octave higher than the horn cut off frequency
Is the above BMS combination likely to cross over comfortably at 1000-1100 hz

Ive also looked at the BMS 2236 horn but I would prefer the wider dispersion of the 2230
The P audio PH-4525 horn was another possibility but I cant find any available in the UK

Any info would be gratefully received before I buy anything
thanks

4590 with their passive crossover at 6300 Hz sounds outstanding...Have tried them with many horns...The diff horn designs changes the sound a bit but still good ......I find the sound a little soft compared to large format drivers with metal domes...Almost too Hi-Fi....I wonder if BMS ever tried metal vs poly. I set the active crossover (DSP) between 400 Hz to 1500 Hz depending on horn size....Again all good...Allows a wide range of System designs....My two test samples
are 8 ohms.... I also have Neo ones and they seem a tad brighter.....VECTORSONICS

I use the 4590 on the 2236 from 600hz up 24db LR. If you're going to only run from 1000hz up there are cheaper options that will work:

https://www.rcf.it/de_DE/products/product-detail/nd950-2-0/292813

But then from 1000hz up you could use a smoother horn with a smaller exit and that opens up other compression driver options too.

My wife has 2 of the 4590 on I think the 2230 and it is excellent crossed at 900hz above 4 sealed 12" (B&C 12NDL76) and the sound is very very impressive (I use a 10" + 1" to cover the same range and her ones sound better) This driver/horn combo is very loud and you need a lot of mid to keep up. It will also show any lackings in your amplifier, we tried quite a few different amps before settling on the QSC CX902 which is an outstanding sounding amp.
