Hi
Is there a rule of thumb for pairing up passive speakers with car amplifiers? For example, could I pair up: 2x JBL JRX225 Dual 15'' Passive PA Speaker Pioneer 4 Gm-D8704 1200 Watts Class FD Amplifier I'm researching build a decent sized 12v system. Thanks Colin Edited by electricpedals - 14 June 2022 at 6:49pm |

It doesn't matter what type the amplifier is, a general rule of thumb is 1.5x the continuous rating but any amp capable of 500w-1000w into 4ohm will do a good job.

I'm a fan of the old Genesis class G amps. The Profile Sub mono amps are really good for driving full range speakers. They have an adjustable HPF from around 18hz up, and each can deliver a respectable 350w @14.4v 4ohm or 550w @2ohm. I'm currently using a pair to drive some EV ZX1s, they give around 200w@8ohms.
