Most car amps tend to have some bullsh*t claim to their wattage and most lack in quality too. So if I ever get car again I'll run a pa amp off an invertor instead. Only a total newbie person who knows nothing about car audio is likely to think some giant wattage spec is what it really does and thinks its kool.Like some moron across the road in my street thinking extremely distorted farting bass in his car sounds good and he invites all his m8s over to listen to the distorted sh*t.
I take it thats the 'best' they heard ever lol.

a freind of mine, actualy my partener in my custom design here, is putting a pair of MTX 5500 10" drivers in his car. not bad... but it's the amp i don't like... Eclipse Audio... he thinks he will be able to power his MTXs with the amp he has to their full potential without damage and whatnot.
now this is why I'M incharge of the audio section of the shop whilest he deals with all the auto stuff... I checked up the amp he has amung others and i have BIG suspition that this amp wont only NOT supply him with the power he atleast needs, but it will sound like crap too.
i recommended him getting a diffrent amp... but he wont listen... so i guess he'l just have to deal with a "i told you so" and an extra $900 soon...
only amp i've personaly seen here in the USA that actualy lives upto it's word is the GTi series amps from JBL. the A3000GTi and A6000GTi, VERY nice amps and live upto thier power ratings and quality *designed and built by Crown and rated 3,000 plus watts for A3000GTi and 6,000 plus watts for A6000GTi (3,129watt @4ohm RMS bridged 14.4v supply for A3000GTi / 8,110watt @4ohm RMS bridged 14.4v supply for A6000GTi)*
i've recently heard the A3000GTi with 3x W12GTi MKII 12" drivers *thus the reason for my earlier post about a 10" settup for my self* and WOW did it sound woundful! Edited by NeverWinter - 06 July 2006 at 1:44am |

The Soundstream amps are the ONLY car amps I know are high quality and live up to their ratings and use rms ratings too.
http://www.soundstream.com/amplifiers-xxx.htm they do 1 ohm.

so, could you use a car amp for pa if you switched the power supply to 240v?
because the soundstream amp in the website mentioned above does 7500w RMS into 2 ohms. hmmmm....

well, you would need a phat transformer to convert 230v->12v. Just buy a proper PA amp, will be much better sounding still (better specs) and more reliable. (plus if u turn up with car amps to a gig, ure get laughed at!!)
