Load it with the proper driver and you'll add at least 30 quid to the resale value. Just because you won't be using it as part of a larger system with matching bins doesn't mean the person who eventually buys it off you won't be. Also if you hang on to the blown driver you can include that free when you sell it.

For what it's worth I think Pinyourok is wrong to say the P Audio driver won't work in this bin, unless he can explain why he thinks it won't. If you sim both drivers in a similar FLH enclosure, the difference in frequency response is +/-1dB, excursion and group delay performance almost the same.

There may be some performance/tonality issues relating to the non-matching specs I mentioned, but no show-stoppers. I just don't think the 30 quid saving is worth not loading it with the right driver in any case.

I was commenting that I had suggested a wrong driver and deleted my comment. Not a comment on Paudio driver

Dubspecialist Sound is selling a freshly reconed PD1850 for 200 quid in the For Sale section. Stick that up it and you'll be laughing. Well worth the extra cost over the drivers you were considering. PD1850's and bins loaded with them perform well and hold their value well.

It is also worth considering the cost of recones, and support in the future.

True, support for those drivers is on the way out but they're still used by enough people to be consistently in demand.

I wouldn't base a system around them, but for one bin it gives a chance to get it going and performing well, and when it's time to think about making a full system it can be moved on. Or if a whole set of 1850s comes up for sale cheap the same thinking could be applied. Drive carefully and they'll still outperform the options considered so far.
