Dubspecialist Sound is selling a freshly reconed PD1850 for 200 quid in the For Sale section. Stick that up it and you'll be laughing. Well worth the extra cost over the drivers you were considering. PD1850's and bins loaded with them perform well and hold their value well.

True, support for those drivers is on the way out but they're still used by enough people to be consistently in demand.
I wouldn't base a system around them, but for one bin it gives a chance to get it going and performing well, and when it's time to think about making a full system it can be moved on. Or if a whole set of 1850s comes up for sale cheap the same thinking could be applied. Drive carefully and they'll still outperform the options considered so far.
