Any recommendations of things out there that will go through and look for unwanted crap hiding out in there? As far as I know there's nothing but the thing is running slower that it should and there are processes running that don't seem right in the activity monitor...

If you absolutely must have 500x services running !!  I'm a techie, so run Ubuntu as main OS, and Windows 10 in VM, when I need MSOffice or obscure hw support.
