It's a house party system. It gets complaints from the houses that surround it.. and works beautifully in a small bar.

If it sounds like a gorilla is trying to escape, turn it down.

Hey guys,

Looking to put together a small system for house parties (up to about 100-150 people), I have some active tops that I can use for the time being that aren't great but I have no small subs that I can take out with them. I am undecided between making something like the cubo 15 or just buying an active sub like the yamaha dxs12. What would people recommend that is small and sounds meaty?
Ps I have processing and amplifiers so internal crossovers aren't a must.

Thanks

cubo 15 or 18" reflex as you already have these heard a lot of active subwoofers and tbh not been that impressed and you have to spend a lot for average peformance imo Smile

Agreed, cheap active subs are usually dismal, if you're active tops go down to meet the cubo's then 15s with quality drivers would be my choice.

I would not call the cubo15/18 a compact sub.
Tony Wilkes Q15 or Q12 is compact... a THAM12 is compact. Iv hot a pair of cub15s and would not say they are compact enough to throw in the back of a hatchback with a couple of tops for a house party.

Couple of tham12s and a 3U rack with crossover and amp would be fairly compact in my eyes.

theres compact and theres compact depends whos eyes u are lookin thru LOL

I have one similar using a pair of good mycro6s and a single tham12. That's my house party rig and makes everyone smile!

Mini:  I have two Miltec 8 + 1.4 cabs, think Micro 8, 120 odd db 74 to 19 +-3db

Would I get away with two Tham 12 and these in a 60/100 capacity bar in your opinion?

Don't know whether to try these or just some small 15 reflex

oooh that is a tidy little system
How many people do you do with this system and how physical is the sub?

its not gonna cover 150 peeps and  a foot sub will only give out so much i think for a small house parties its fine but if its a big house with loads of peeps and u like sub presence u need more on the bottom LOL

Either will work fine 2x Tham12 will do very nicely 50-100 in a room. Outside is a little different.

I also have another 2.1 system that runs a pair of ohm mr288 and a single 15inch reflex sub and I can do weddings with that one.

Small and big house parties 2x tham12 will work. As for bass presence, if your looking and shaking the place and breaking the home owners windows/plate collection then no they won't wobble your eyes but they will put a smile on ya face and keep the punters happy. 150 May be a stretch.. 4x tham12 may be the order of the day for that. Build 2x and when you want a little more build another 2! They are compact enough to fit 4x and a pair of tops in my honda jazz with the amp rack riding shotgun

4 thams with the proper Beyma drivers, suitable processing and amplification, outside at 'Mobile Disco' levels (about 95-100db on the dancefloor), 150 to 200 peeps is easy... I did just that last night!

Depending on the venue, 2 thams inside will do 150 to 200 peeps.

2 Thams in the room below makes all the panelling on the minstrel’s gallery vibrate and crap fall out of the celling.

...
For a room with a high ceiling and so many hard surfaces the acoustics are very good!

In that room just very simple 10+1 (Fane Sovereign 10-300 and a CD10Fe on a H1-7050 horn) with a homemade passive xo @1.8Khz between the 10 and the 1, the passive has a zobel network, L-pad and CD correction.

Active XO 42Hz Highpass on the Thams and 110hz between the Thams and tops.

Very nice!!

...could do with some UV bars there fella

That whole setup looks super compact!

If there was ever an advert for super compact PA system that would make a nice poster.
