Another useless post, but slightly relevant and a little bit amusing nonetheless; I've got a pair of Alto mac 2.4's, both of them have always tripped breakers on power up (well, one of them does, the other died a while back), One afternoon a few years ago I was setting up in a local pub during a six nations rugby match, when I switched the amp on I promptly found out that the projector and sky box were also on the same ring as the sockets on the stage and I had to walk through a not very happy pile of pissed up rugby fans to reset the breaker, it then took nearly five minutes for the projector and sky box to fire back into life.....Ouch

Thanks guys.

It's the venue breakers, that trip.

If anyone can recommend Crest '01 series expert, I'll take in for a service.
If he turns me into a zombie, first person I'm coming after is you.

Must admit I've never worked on a 10001 but I've replaced the soft start on a 9001 which does have primary side inrush reduction (still a massive current spike).  I'm surprised the 10001 doesn't use the same scheme.

You could always implement what I do on the workbench.  100W lamp series with the live with a switch to short across it.  Start the amp with the lamp inline for a couple of seconds then flick the switch to give it full power.

Hi,

The soft start on these amplifiers are pretty weird. It is done on the secondary side of the transformer BEFORE the AC is rectified rather than the usual primary side of the transformer via two relays and two 25 Watt resistors.

Check the two soft start relays (RL1 & RL2) & that the contacts have not welded together on either one. You could also check the 25 Watt resistors (each one is in series from the bridge rectifier to the main storage capacitors) are not open circuit (R3 and R4 & should be 10 ohms at 25 Watts).

I had one amplifier where one 10 ohms 25 watts resistor was open circuit, and the relay contacts were welded together.

Get the soft start checked FIRST on the amplifier this will then confirm if there is a problem with the amplifier or not and then go from there. Clap

Just in case anyone is in the market for these amps I have a couple of 10001 sat here. Was planning to have a play with them, but too many other priorities in life!

Beast of an amp - 7,500 watts per channel at 1 ohm, could continuous current dump on sub more than a rack full of Powersofts!

I've been told they're very rare and sought after and in good working order fetch around £2k each.

Both the amps I have need some attention to one channel, but I've just not had the time to service them, hence would let them go for about £2,000+VAT for the pair.  PM me if you would like more info.

Would like to keep them really, but just got so many other projects on that I can see them sitting gathering dust for ages, hence struggling to justify keeping them!

Cheers, Jon.
