Crown had the daft idea of using the fan motor windings to provide the low voltage AC for the main board Gaz,so it's really a fan-former....seem to remember Dansette doing something similar on their record players in the 1960's,using the motor as a transformer. Really stupid idea on an amplifier that retailed at £1500.

Ah ok. I assumed there must be a reason. I remember my first record player being like that, idler drive mains motor with low voltage output on it for the amplifier.
Presumably there’s no other way of getting round the problem fitting a separate small transformer and different fan? |

Anything is possible, the central deck mounting hole diameter is about 4 inches,so if an adapter baffle could be made to fit a 100mm Papst type mains fan, problem being a standard square-framed fan wont fit,as it will foul other power supply PCB's.....so the fan needs to be in a round frame....then a separate LV transformer to run the main board, and modify all the wiring accordingly.....not exactly a 5-minute job!
So you can see a genuine working fan is at a premium. |

I once did do a mod on a Microtech I had - adding an O/P protection board. The Micros had (have?) a bad rep for going DC & destroying drivers, so I managed to fit a small transformer & relay board in the thing. FWIR, there was plenty of room in there to do that, so another type of fan & transformer should be a possibility - but, as you say, not a quick job. |

Ok, just spoken to the guy with the (spare) Amcrons. He´s going to check if any of the fans work and get back to me. Let you know. |
