Hope all of you stubborn gits, still using Windows XP, on the internet, have got the message.

I use Xp on 4 VMs for various reasons, if you have a closed system there is no such thing as an upgrade, just hassle....

If on the other hand you don't have a closed system and use the internet you may want to consider upgrading...

7 is not immune, dealt with it loads.

The, "problem" with home users is that a lot, a damn lot only see it as a TV type device.
One of my fav calls was an old lady who couldn't explain why her email doesn't work. When I get there the machine has browned out, full on lightning strike down the line across the whole PC. But to her, at 85, her email did not work, that's all it is, an email and skype machine.
Other customers I've had for 15 years are now mid 80's, their minds (not all obviously) are sipping and they cannot withhold new info or learn new stuff. The fact that we HAVE to upgrade is what is wrong, it should all have been built properly originally they say. Well they are right, but we know it's not like that, nothing else in their life is like IT. Their car works 15 years later, their TV, lawn mower......
Add tho this a small barely in profit company that is expected to upgrade and a massive thing like the NHS who have to upgrade actual machinery due to the software upgrade. Garages, want your old car diagnosing, XP only software for loads. Old RS232 laptops now going up in value. The constant upgrade is a business model on one hand and needed to keep the baddies at bay another. It's a mess and a damn good living :)

Only mentioned '7, as a means to get '10 for free. Wink

For these very reasons, (And being a Linux Developer), All of my home machines are Linux Hosts with Windows VM.

Absolutely only have Windows VMs, due to needing Office, MSPaint, Rufus, hornresp, printing/Scanning (manufacturer Linux driver support for this is gash), few other Windows must haves.

If Office 365 is absolutely great on Linux Browser, hmmmm..

Stick Symantec on an old CPU or one of the Argos/PCW 200 quid specials (the ones with the AMD E or Celeron or stripped down Intel CPU that's not fit for purpose so widely marketed) and the machine comes to a standstill. Upgrades again, need more power and ram for your AV.

Linux users always seem to have Windows in Virtual......
