Any lighting bods know where I can lay my hands on a Martin Harman dabs1 dmx to usb interface. Ideally would love to rent one for a day in London. Or if anyone knows if there is something else that will work with Martin Harman products circa 2000 era?

What lights are you trying to work on? The Dabs wasn’t that widely used, would an MP-x series software uploaded work for you? I know of a couple of companies who still have them knocking about the back of the workshop

unfortunately not, I’ve been on the phone with Martin and apparently the dabs1 is the only one that will do the job. I’m working with Martin exterior 200’s, they’re architectural lights that I’m installing at a building for my day job. Turning out to be a real pain in the arris!

Chamsys has them listed as an available head, might be an easy way?
The software is free, you will just need the 'full' dongle or a DMX box (I believe the Enttec Pro will allow use)

From memory martin's architectural units had a piece of software to address, set modes and do stand alone timed programming, which didn't use standard dmx data, more like an early version of RDM. It's unlikely any standard usb to dmx box will work with this software.

That sentence went right over my head mate! So you think if I get the enttec usb to dmx box this will work with the Martin MUM software?

James tango that’s right mate according to the guy at Martin, basically I wanna load in some standalone programs instead of having to sling around loads of xlr cables segregated from the power to each fitting

Surely either way they all have to be hooked up via sms cables anyway...

If it sounds like a gorilla is trying to escape, turn it down.

Ive just been through the manual and that is indeed correct
I was hoping you wouldn't need the MUM software, as in Chamsys could have run everything you need, BUT now reading the manual Martin have been sneaky and made you have to use their own software to set DMX addresses etc

yeah thought as much, need to track down and borrow a dabs1, that way I can set up a stand-alone program for the lights and not have to buy a dmx controller and run twice the cable. Just out of interest does anyone know of any dmx controllers that will just run programs instead of needing someone operating faders on a board? That way at least I can get the lights functioning and just stick the dmx controller in an ip65 adaptable box outside where I will cut down the cable runs. Thanks for everyone’s help though!

Look at chromatec products http://www.chromateq.com/42-chromateq-dmx512.htm
I haven't used them myself but was one of the frontrunners for an install that didn't come off for us, that needed time-lining
