Thinking about building one of these to have a play with for a mate, but wondering has it enuff output to go above 2x18" scoops the reason im asking ive read a fair bit in this section

and a lot of ppls keep saying yu need 4-6 bins for any decent output...i have heard x4/6 bins on some soundsystems and sound nice with plenty punch/kick, never heard 1x double tho above scoops

also only be loaded with Eminence drivers, iether delta, omega crossed from scoop at 80-180/200 there a bout, i like the look tbh too of the double...

any opinions

thanks...

My opinion is it will be' ''ok''. You need 4-6 in open air situations but then you can reach much lower than 80hz.but just for kicks above scoops unless it isnt for hard  dance music it would be nice.
I'm using them with x1 and my ratio is 1:1, although i havent heard them with eminence drivers.

Lots of people use hd15 above scoops anyway

There's a sound from round 'ere has 4x Emi Kappa 15 HD's above their 4 v18-1000 Supers and IMO there is not enough kick. Having set up their rig a few times the HD's always end up running right on the limit of power all night and still don't really keep up with the scoops the way I'd like. A better ratio would be 6 HD's it seems. Scoop amp is Inf 8, HD amp is P3000, so not really underpowered; about 600W per 15. Should really be able to get plenty of 80-160Hz from that many watts per driver in a GOOD box.
However, there's another sound with 4x PD186 ES18's on kick above 4x Hogs, and there's no problem there. Mid-bass for DAYS even against the increased amount of sub-bass over Supers.
So yeah, it's a simple box to build and looks cool, but not, in my experience, actually that much louder than a reflex.

I compared one of my Omega loaded HD215s to a pair of Colossus 15XB loaded reflex cabs, the 15XBs would play lower but that was it, the HDs were a LOT louder and punched harder.

Perhaps it has more to do with drivers than I realise then. I'm not completely sure what's in my mate's HD's, I suspect it may not be all Kappas, but they don't seem to get blown much so they are at least 400w rated I would surmise. The Omegas must work better. Still pretty cheap too.
I've built trapezoid "versions" of the HD15 in the past that ended up having quite a large mouth compared to the standard design, maybe 50% more (translated chamber sizes and horn path as best I could into a trap shape of required dimensions). This was so that I could mount quite a large compression driver horn in the mouth, which ended up being modified out of the design.
When I compared one trap box in the workshop against one normal HD there did not seem to be much difference, and I was quite disappointed with the output TBH. There was some extra level available in the 50Hz region but that seemed to be it. But when two trap boxes are arrayed in the stack as it is used, there's good sensitivity and output from them that doesn't seem to require them to be pushed that hard, and they keep up with 2xPD1851 scoops which are 'eaveh like LEAD.
So they're perhaps a small improvement, but were a total bugger to put together. If I were to build those boxes again I would just do 2x15" + 2" + bullets reflex and have a simpler life ;)

Problem with HD15 above scoops is not SPL, it's the high end freq response.

TDA Modified the plan to be a bit better.

I modded TDAs plan, for 18mm timber, & increased height, so on side was 600mm wide, to match scoops.

Kappa LFs will not give as much output as some other drivers in HD15s,  i dont really think theres much point in giving them more than 400w, when i tried them side by side the PD154 had a couple of dB more and the 156 a bit more than that, that was a short test also so over long term id expect the kappa to suffer more from thermal compression.  I didn't really like the sound of the PDs though, found the 154 a bit hard and brutal, and the 156 a bit dull a sluggish, not really the right driver for a HD imo.  Id be interested to try the BMS 15S340v2.

Eather way i dont think the HD15 is ideal as an upper bass cab, to me its a bass bin than runs to 50Hz for applications that dont require lots of deep bass.
