I apologise if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it.

If a driver manufacturer quotes a continuous rate, a program rate and a peak rate, is the continous rate the same as the rms rate?

In short, no. AES ratings are the norm now, and are measured using a standard which is freely available to read. It's essentially application of a shaped noise for a certain period. It is not the same as the RMS limit you need to use to prevent coils burning.
