How comprehensive are the dsps in modern amps?
Ive bought a dcx but wondering if i should return it and buy a new amp with built in dsp instead? Do they do everything the dcx does? |

No, in this case you really have to spend serious $$ to exceed the processing flexability and quality that a stand alone processor includes.

Something like a secondhand powersoft m28q or ffa 6004 totally open to suggestions.
Just had enough of the weight of my amp rack and thinking around the problem. |

if going down the Powersoft route I would definitely use the internal DSP. Same if you were going down the LabG/ lake route. The Powersoft M series DSP units talk to Armonia, and whilst the onboard processing is the most basic of the touring series, it is still comprehensive, with the exclusion of very long delay times ( only needed if using for delay stacks).
Other brands like crown, qsc etc also have decent on board processing. FFA I haven't used ( just heard) so can't really comment.

Linea Research has a stupidly powerful DSp on board, just quite expensive but definitely worth it. In my opinion they sound much nicer than even labs

Advantage of the powersofts is ive been looking and they appear to be more readily available second hand.
Either 4 channels around the £1000 mark or two 2 channel at 500 each... was actually the m20 posted up on here that got me thinking about it. Doesn't have to be 1u, does have to be light. Edited by JonB67 - 06 February 2018 at 10:25am |

In that price bracket your looking at a ultradrive and decent used standard amps.

yes there are many DSP amps now on the market that range from low to high quality /low price to high price- QSC, Powersoft and Lab Gruppen, Crown etc.. at the moment FFA and MC2 are the only company's with extra DSP channels to drive other amps in the system that do not have on board DSP. so this would directly match your DSP, I think at the moment ours is one of the few with dynamic EQ and broadband input limiting. We are working on specialist filters and dante which others have and we do not at the moment... i would say that your processor weight is negligible and perhaps if your happy with the performance keep what you have for now best wishes Dave
