I finally figured out the subs I was looking for. They are the EAW BH-800 18" Bent Horn.
Looking for plans for these, anyone please chime in if you have or can locate them. Thanks! -Jim ![]() |

That was probably a good box in its day, but that day has long passed.. Response is not very deep due to the short horn path length and high flare rate. The "bent" rather than folded horn is to improve the upper end of the response as 250Hz used to be a common crossover point for subs in 3-way systems.
I doubt you will find any "actual" plans, but it should be possible to derive a similar design. |

Centauri, do you think your C-Bin would be a better choice? I heard 2 of these EAW cabs under some JBL mini-line-arrays and I was very impressed because of its size.
I would like a bin to run 1 on each side of the stage for smaller jobs/bands. |

The upper and lower response of both boxes would be similar, however the EAW boxes are a much larger horn and are therefore more efficient and would be the better choice for 1 per side - I usually run a minimum of two of my C-bins per side.

Should I scrap the BH-800 idea all together and go for 2 C-bins, or 2 186's per side as opposed to 1 cabinet?
I'm still planning a 4 or 8 186 build, as well as at least 1 C-bin to play with and hear. Thanks, -Jim |

You'd be hard pressed to find an existing popular horn plan that plays well and deep in singles unless you count the 'tapped horn' approach. Then again...

Deadbeat,
Whats a good Tapped horn plan that would allow me to build easily out of cheaper ply or MDF for experiment? |

What frequency range are you planning to encompass, and what form factor? There's two main ones - long and thin, like a pencil, and the other is a conventional box.

Looking to go as low as reasonably possible.. 40hz? up to say 150 maybe 200 if possible, but not required.
As far as form, I'd like to do stacks, so stack-able cabs are best. But the long and thin sound interesting as well. -Jim |

40-150-200hz...
Not long and thin... I'll see what there is: 60-250hz flat: http://www.cowanaudio.com/images/60Hz%20Tapped%20Horn.gif If you can make a plan from hornresp inputs (quite easy, if you want I can show you how!), this is a good one from 50-nearly 200 http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=129226&perpage=25&pagenumber=1 Apache H15, 40-200 apparently: http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/6218/apacheh15plancf3.jpg then there's the ridiculous amounts of other ones of all shapes and sizes in this one, pick to serve needs...: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97674&perpage=25&pagenumber=1 |

Deadbeat,
Interesting! The Apache H15 is looking nifty, I'll see if we can mock one up here this week sometime to see what it does. I just purchased a stack of amps, so we're taking it easy for a little then on to building a series of cabs for next spring/summer. |
