The subwoofers you'll se below have not been built from me but from a friend of mine near Naples, his projects are meant for his personal use only and not to be reproduced although he does some commissioned builds.
First one might not look really "custom" but as I said my mate does one-off builds only, however two of these were sold to me as he was going to scrap them and preferred to sell them at a bargain. It's a 2x18", originally designed to be a bph and part of a 5-way system. He then decided to add a reflex port to enhance the low extension as required from his gigs, the port is obviously "linked" to the back chamber. 4 prototypes were made before he was ok with it, wood is 25mm Poplar Ply outside and 18mm Poplar Ply for the horn (no Birch as he lives on an island where it's not supplied). The downside of that is these weigh 125Kg each. ![]() Originally loaded with RCF L18S801, bought them unloaded and decided to throw two RCF LF18G401's instead. Love them.
This is his newer system, he obviously decided to go for something smaller than a 5-way huge stack, all I can say is that he's pretty happy with it and he doesn't use any sim software. Pen and paper are his WinISD. These are somewhat still prototypes, but he's managed to get a decently flat response out of the system. ![]() They are RCF LF12X401 loaded, frequency range is 48-180Hz at -3dB and 40-350Hz at -6dB. He was impressed by the capability of both the drivers he used and the design, I would love to hear these little beasts. Just tham 12"s ![]() ![]() That's it for me, that's just about as custom subs can get here in Italy. Anything else you can look for is scoops. ![]() Love the thread, cheers. ![]() Edit: forgot about these They are built from another person who I don't personally know and were built for a venue called Veniceberg here in my hometown, Verona. Kind of rare to see this kind of custom soundsystems here as people rather rent FK1 or Void so I would call this an exception to what I wrote up above. Fun fact: Veniceberg's project started from a small gas station which provided fuel during the day and parties during the night. I found it pretty cool and unique and apparently a lot of other people has as they've stepped up by a lot. ![]() ![]() Edited by Darkstar - 06 July 2015 at 9:56am |

These were mentioned in another thread a while back, but fit well here. A couple of 12" ported bandpass horns designed to fit under a low venue stage. Flattish down to 40Hz before they start dropping off - deep & tight sounding.

@All Bass yes they do look an awful lot, it hasn't come to my mind before as I'm not familiar with that design. The drivers which they are loaded with are a bit different though and they are not placed in the same spot as the tham plans.
@Daniellt mind if I come have a look? @Centauri these look ace! Interesting way of loading the driver. How big are these? Can't tell from the pic. Edited by Darkstar - 06 July 2015 at 9:58am |

Driver had to be mounted at an angle to physically fit, as there was only 300mm clearance under the stage. Width was 1200mm and depth about 860mm at deepest point. Curved front was to match curved stage.

@DarkStar, those are identicle to the tham! I know, i build one.
I do like the understage bass bins, nice bit of thinking there to get the bin into the 300mm depth. |

@Darkstar - I like the look of the Veniceberg install, that looks smart.
@Centauri - clever driver loading and ported horn is a great idea for such a low profile sub, well done there. It's good to see this thread has come back to life a bit recently and nice to see some unusual subwoofer designs that are interesting and unique. We built a pair of 'one-off' subwoofers for a customer earlier in the month, here's a few pics with their new owner beside them; ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by RosscoPico - 17 July 2015 at 9:08pm |

Thanks Sapro2! They are manageable on 4 castors but a little on the large side... Specs are;
108.5 dB @ 1w / 1m 2000w RMS 45Hz - 210Hz (-3dB) 45 - 160Hz usable range 1500W x 800D x 750H 150Kg 141.5 dB cont, 147.5dB peak SPL
They are primarily used for live bands, so are tuned for punchy attack rather than real deep low frequency output. Edited by RosscoPico - 17 July 2015 at 10:30pm |
