I've had 2x PD186 across Proline 2700 in Bridge.
EDIT:In theory that's 3200W across the pair in 4 ohm bridge. In reality, it wasn't a sine wave, and the amp wasn't being given 0db, and the amp wasn't just on clip... So in short they were'nt being fed 3600W. Easy to get carried away with these figures... Edited by levyte357 - 26 January 2010 at 3:20pm |

The rated power of a Yam P5000 bridged into 4R is only 2600W peak for 20ms the RMS power will be way lower. the RMS power into 4R per channel is probaly as close as makes no difference to what it delivers bridged (they dont even rate it for bridged into 4R as I presume you have 8R drivers and rand them in parallel across the bridged output ... so about 750W RMS, which is about right for what the driver claims to handle and is consistent with a peak rating of 2600W peak and a 3.something to 1 crest factor. So .. no, you didn't run 2600W rms into a pair :) |

Understood, but that still isn't continous power guv, it's music power. If you take an amplifier capable of supplying 1.5kw into 8 ohms, when fed a 40hz sine wave, and attach PD186 across it, in cab perfectly tuned for it, you will see the driver die long before the amp is at full tilt. Probaby due to suspension giving up before, voice coil. There are very few amps that can truly supply their stated continous power, and even fewer drivers that can withstand theirs. WinISD is sometimes "very accurate" here. Which makes me laugh when I see some driver manufacturers stating 2kw-3kw "anywhere" on their spec sheet. Edited by levyte357 - 26 January 2010 at 3:30pm |

at 35Hz, bridged into 4R the Yam P5000s doesnt even manage a whole cycle of 35Hz at 2600W peak .. 20ms equates to a single cycle of 50Hz ... bridged into 4 it probably provides about 1500W RMS, 750W per speaker for 2 x 8R in parallel, dependign on crest factor, could be less. |

fair nuf i stand corrected.
i dont know the ins and outs of amps. just going from how we run our systems and from my experience. so lamens terms for me please, I do want to learn about the amp internals alot more. and have already made a start, be it a slow start it is still a start. so basically you are saying if i happend to get my hands on an amp that gave a true RMS rate of power say 800w i could stick a PD1850 on it and be happy? but if i had an amp that gave 1600w RMS all night long it would probably fry the 1850? |

Have personally seen CA18/MA5000Z (on 16A supply), drive 2x PD1850s per channel quite excellently. Have heard a pair across bridged MPX1200, 4050HD, MA2400, which provided more SPL especially at the extreme lows, but ran greater risk of damage to the drivers. Quality, amp will do the job @ 4 ohm stereo with nice sound quality... (There you go ArthurG )And if you want insanity, then... |
