check the thread on diyaudio, some recent builds documented there to get as much bass as possible maybe some outside the box thinking...... the 12 250 tc should in theory lend itself to MLTL very well, since that design principle supposedly yields more LF corner shift downwards when applied with high QTS drivers |

Reflex:
20L = naff all low end 45L = just about go full tilt without throwing it's toys out the pram if tuned to 55 or above - excursion limited around 110Hz. 70 - 100L tuned low - loads of flabby lows - will throw it's toys out if driven with anything much more than the average hifi amp. Sealed: 40+ litres with a boost down to 35Hz with DSP sounds bloomin gorgeous, not the loudest but really natural - right if ya know what I mean, with a bit of FIR and 60mm open cell foam, sounds fookin amazing.

Hi all,
I am new here, accidently found this thread while searching for Information about the Fane 12-250-TC. I am thinking of using it for a small PA-Box, mainly for vocals and Keyboards. Might be a good alternative to typical 12"/1" combinations. So far I guess the main disadvantage of the Fane is a quite strong direction characteristic or weak treble on the side of the axis. My idea was to build a cabinet similar to the old Bose 902 using two Chassis on a folded panel. Is that something you could recommend? I have set up a Simulation in Visaton BoxSim with one chassis in a closed 35l housing reaching -6dB at 65 Hz. Is there a possibility to reach 50 Hz with a reasonable effort? Also, when using 2 Chassis should I rather go with separate 35l houses or put them together in a 70l housing? Thank you so much, Hartmut Edited by Hartmut - 01 June 2018 at 1:53pm |

Hi Hartmut, and welcome.
An angled baffle is a good idea, but better to angle them inwards than to angle them outwards, imo. Angling them outwards would help dispersion to the sides but at the expense of on axis, nearfield high frequency response - not good if they might ever need to be used as monitors or in intimate gigs where people are getting close to the stage. Definitely bass reflex if you want any 50Hz. I presume they will need to play without a subwoofer? Before going ahead with a large and somewhat complicated double enclosure, why not build a test box purely for the purpose of testing HF dispersion and see if you find it satisfactory. Since it's only the higher frequencies you're concerned with, the test 'box' doesn't need to take any time or resources - It could simply be an old sheet of plasterboard or even corrugated cardboard box with a hole cut in it, just enough to stop any rear wave cancellations which doesn't take much (it's only really mids where that would be any concern). You might want to start a separate development thread for this in the "New Projects" forum.
