One track mind!  LOL

I´d say this driver would be more suitable for an instument cab, ie keyboards or guitar. Not really PA.

This style of speaker works quite well as simple disco speaker, back in the 90s Deltec used to make bucketloads of 1 x 12" + piezo speakers using the eminence equivalent. For a simple DJ set up, for pub gigs, it's a very cost effective solution.

As soon as you have 2 drive units and a passive crossover, costs start going up.

OP was asking about drivers to go over 1x18 vented bass bins - so absolutely no need for low end.

Yes, most probably better than some of the (red) plastic crap out there - but people are generally deafer these days, so need the HF distortion, otherwise it won´t sound right!  LOL

wow, nice find app!

I wonder about the dispersion in the HF range.....

dang, it would be tempting to put 2-3  of those stacked vertically in a box and see what happens :)

app, you might have a budget winner for your homebrew sound Wink

stick it in a closed box and see what happens :)

this thing might even work in HiFi use as a dipole......

taking a closer look at the datasheet, the frequency plot looks weird.... does this thing really have a 108-109 dB sensitivity around 10k? That's CRAZY!

Would be an interesting test...

Two vertically works OK I have tried that myself - I think the issue is more horizontally with multiple cabs.

and I say, 'usually', in that I was told this some time ago by someone who said they had tried it with poor results, but perhaps their expectations were too high from the HF, I havent tried it myself, but i do know the off axis response isnt amazing, so potentially going to have hots spots with a horizontal array, but a vertical array may well improve things..

What about vertically but with slightly left right (splayed) top and bottom baffles. IE a 2x12 but each driver a few degrees each way horizontally?
It's everything, not everythink!

it's goin to make the whole shebang lobe diagonally...... it will probably also decrease coupling in the HF

it's all guesswork as long as there is no reliable information about the HF dispersion angle! Ouch

EDIT: AndyKos, about that HF dispersion angle..... Tongue you got any idea? Embarrassed

Sounds like a 12" version of a tall bose 502 speaker array would make a good cab design for hf angles. If the speaker is run full range, then the hf graph must odd if the starting point is moving in and out at 30 hertz.
