Hello Speakerplan-ers.

I have a subwoofer driver that has developed an irregular sound. As the driver reaches excursion, it makes what sounds like a drummer hitting a rim shot. I have posted an average video here (made with my phone....) -

It would be great if anyone could perhaps tell me what the cause of this may be! I am hoping a re-cone may be able to cure it.

Tanks a mill (it's St Pats day here....), cheers.

Sounds like the cone and the coil starting to separate.  Not easy to repair.  May need a full recone or replacement.

Thanks ceharden.

I can get a recone kit for about $100 NZD which is reasonable. I'll put it on the list of things to do....

Cheers

check it's not something simple like the dust cap coming loose or a little tear somewhere.
