Sound System has been up and running for about a month now and still have a lot to learn about the dB-XCA 28 but it’s winter and have no plans on getting it out and about until I have transport anyway so plenty of time to familiarise myself with it, read the manual and understand settings on EQ etc.

I have to give a huge shout out to SpeakerPlans.com Forum Community for Newbies which has been valuable resource and I’ll be eternally grateful for the patience and selflessness the community has shown me giving their knowledge and time!

Thanks to Conanski, RoadRunnersDust, Lucasdude, KDW32, 4D, Snowflake, DMorison, Bob4, Earplug, CSG and to anyone who took the time to respond! Much appreciated!

Here are a few shots, as you can see the W Kicks are smaller than the Subs below and 215s above so when I do stack them as one there will be a void. I have made a box to fill the void which I’ll probably get a stencil cut and use as Logo/Lightbox. Unless there is a way of adding another Eminence Omega Pro 15” to the middle? Making it x3 instead of x2? Presume not as it’s unbalanced on the channels unless they can be linked differently and run back to amp?

Wow... colorfulClap

You could stand the 215's vertically, how tall would that make the stack?

How does it sound?

That is not the PV horn I was thinking of... did you get something new or is that what you had all along?

That does look a bit odd, albeit very colourful, yes.   Smile

I don't think that the 2x15's can be stood on it's side. Looks trapezoid.

You could separate the bass bins a bit and have some sort of box around the w-bin with lights or logos. That might look better.

Whooooaaa never expected this! Hi5! Biggup for keeping the DIY faith. I think with the winter experiments with the  dB mark you will get some good result for your ears. I think me personally would not have the w and not sure what you doing with for your top? That should be horizontal.

Keep asking questions. Everyone is always learning.

In last month I had to learn armonia plus in a field and now I have a WiFi router on my amp rack. Nearly broke my brain.  Keep learning.

I seem to think Conanski is the G who proper helped you most. Hi 5 you for effort and hope this forum will guide you as we all learn together.

Thumbs Up

Sounds good but I have it set to -0.9db on DSP as you said and I think until I have a party or take it out it will stay set to that. I’ve not had much time to tweak EQ only setting using mixer controls currently. I need to study the manual and look through old posts.

I could stack the 215s vertical but this would mean I’d have to stack the Horns vertical too so there would be no overhang there so it would be a very tall stack at 275cm. The horn is just above my head height at the moment but stacked vertical they would be about 60cm  above head height which is usual with Reggae/Dub Sound Systems but because of what mine consists of it would be very rocket like and effect width of sound I imagine. Plus even though I have heavy duty ratchets stacked in a narrow formation wouldn’t be very safe. I’ve already made a box for centre between the W Bins.

The PV horns are mounted Vertical, I adapted a 12” Flare Box.

This photo kind of illustrates why it took so long! Everything needed rust removing, filling, painting, adapting, all rewired internally with new sockets etc

the flared box at the top is just the horn fitted into it?

A couple ideas on that...

1. Remove the kick bin and make it a 3-way, stand the 215's vertical with the PV horn on top. I know this can work because it's how my system is configured.

2.  Rotate the kick bin 90 deg and drop it between the subs, and then put the 215 and horn stack on top of that.

Why did you add this big flare box? The high frequency horns don't need it and I'm not sure it's doing anything useful. In addition to that...  you currently have these horns arranged so they have very narrow horizontal coverage and very wide vertical coverage... which is the opposite of what you want/need for a party event.

It also can't be any fun lifting that hugh thing up there.

the hf box might look cool but it is not making anything better sound wise.

I would suggest you try;

Standing the 215 on it end.
Remove the hf horn , turn 90° and put it on top (even without a box)
If this is too tall, turn the bass cabs sideways
Keep pushing on, things are gonna get better.

The horns are in those boxes as I couldn’t find any decent horn boxes (at any price) the flare boxes where a bargain and if I ever change the horns I can just change them back to 12” flare boxes but as they are they just fit in ceiling height, but can be turned Horizontal in rooms with higher ceilings.

No changes being made now or not at least for a long time it was a bit all consuming getting to this stage, it sounds decent I’m happy!

Job done!

Copy that. Yes this would have been quite the project so time to relax and enjoy it. Congrats by the way you did a great job on everything.
