A couple months ago I finished this portable(ish) speaker. Bottom section is a Tham10 with a Faital Pro 10PR300 driver. Top section is 2x ported mid/tops with Faital Pro 4FE32 drivers. I used the Sure Wondom AA-JA33286, 4 channel amplifier which has a built in dsp. A Sure Wondom dc-dc booster and it runs of 1x Makita 18v Battery. All in all weighs 18.8kg. I used the same amp and battery setup in my previous 2 portable speaker builds so judging by how long that lasted this should be basically the same. Can't give an exact figure but on my mk2 speaker 2 and a bit 5amp battery's got me roughly 14 hours runtime. Multiple genres of music (dub, dnb, tek, etc) and varying volume levels throught that time. Very pleased with the overall sound, nice and bassy especially kicky, drops off quickly below 60hz which I saw it would before building, for the size though I'm well chuffed with it. I used 12mm Birch ply for it all and finished it with Osmo 420 Oil. Here's a few pics of it and my REW reading of how it is set now from a ground plane measurement. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Jack1991 - 20 May 2024 at 8:20pm |

Looks fantastic, love the pop off rear panel.
How are you protecting the battery from being run too low out of interest?

Cheers man. I have a voltmeter on the side so just keep an eye on it when it gets down to around 16v I just switch the battery out.
I did look into getting a little low voltage cut off circuit board but the only ones I could find were cheapy looking things.

i was thinking of doing exactly the same this looks absolutley stunning, very well done with the fit and finish!
I did get some different results when measurming but i used the very cheap thomann 250/10-8a speaker instead (blue line is with some eq filters) Im thinking of making it more modular with a separate amplifier box and a separate for the 4fe32 but now im thinking of doing it like you instead! How did you apply the high pass filter for the tham10 to avoid over excursion? ![]() ![]() Edited by roopes - 05 August 2024 at 2:28pm |

Cheers guys 👍🏼 I'm well happy with it, took it to a few festivals this year for when by the van and it does the job well! Not quite as loud as a soundboks but definitely a lot bassier.
I can't remember what I set the high pass at roopes, But if I had to guess it was maybe 45hz Butterworth 24dB/oct.

How do you find it to perform with vs a soundboks when talking about LF extension?
Second, how do you find the wondom amp/dsp?

I don't own a soundboks myself so haven't had a proper test with one. But heard one on max volume at a festival recently and they are loud but not bassy. You can hear that it must have like a dynamic bass or psychoacoustics or something (not sure the correct term) but it sort of sounds like it has bass notes but not actually bassy, does that make sense? Where as I find this one real good, feels bassy and seems to work better once it's been playing for a while. Wether it loosens up or something maybe? I love the little wondom amp and dsp. Worked it out on the amplifier chip spec sheet I'm probably only getting around 30w (thd+n 1%) for the THAM10 and about 13w per 4FE32. So not much but it's ample for what I use it for. I do find sigma studio the software for the DSP quite hard to understand. I'm sure there is probably a ton of stuff I could use or do to make it better but I have just done the basics for what I could understand. I do want to make a THAM12 version though soon maybe over winter, but use 2x amps and 2x Makita battery's. Just to see what I can get from it and I find it a fun hobby to make speaker stuff. |

i did this test yesterday and the soundboks3 cant compete with a tham10 + faital in the low freqency, not even close.. in SPL the soundboks 3 got 120db/1m and the tham10+ 1x 4fe32 got 113,6db/1m
i got a tham12 with an array of 8x4fe32 with dual TPA3255 with 36v battery (getting a booster to get 48v constant) And this plays 10hz lower, a lot louder than the tham10 and sounds great! got it to play 119,9db but it had more to give ![]() Edited by roopes - 07 August 2024 at 2:37pm |
