Topic: Admark AD60 or AD442 new Subwoofer AMPs for WSXPosted: 10 June 2024 at 7:44am |

Hello Speakerplans Community,
We are searching for some new Subwoofer Amping for our 16 Martin Audio WSX loaded with OBERTON 18XB1500V2 (Nominal power handling 1500w). First we thought using ADMARK AD42 amplifier (4 Subwoofers each) Then I found out they have new AD60 which have slightly more Power. AD60 seems to be a bridged AD442 (there latest 4 Cannel Amp with gallium nitride PSU) Internals look the same and AD60 cannot be bridged which gives a hint to be same amplifier like AD442. What makes more sense for us using AD42 OR AD60 or buy an AD442 and use it bridged just because it's the same like AD60 just having the opportunity to use it in some cases as a 4 channel amp When having smaller setups. Admark is saying that the AD60 is producing 60% less heat than AD42 and need less capacitors because of gallium nitride Power supply. AD60 has one more fan compared to AD442 which is good for heavy Bass use. I am thinking that the option with AD60 or a bridged AD442 having higher rail Voltage than AD42 which could maybe reach higher SPL. From Pictures AD42 has more capacitors inside but maybe this is compensated by the Stronger PSU of AD60/AD442 Does anyone has experience how a bridged AD442 or AD60 compares to a Powersoft K20? What would you choose ? We are planning to buy at least 4 Amplifiers and put four WSX per Amp to run them 4 Ohm per Channel. I am wondering if AD442 has same sonic Power and performance as AD60 especially for the really low notes around 30-35hz. I would really appreciate any shared experience with this amplifiers and also we are Interested how they behave compared to Powersoft K20. Thanks in advance for any help for deciding ! Just keep the AD42, its a dedicated 2 channel amplifier compared to the AD60 etc. I also don't see the point in more power. You will always be thermally limited due to the closed rear chamber.

If you read the thread below, you will realize there won't be a huge difference in output going from an AD 42 to an AD 60.
If the AD442 is not giving you a lot of volume then, you should be looking at your power feed (Cabling) in addition to Loudspeaker Cable as, the root of the problem. Best Regards,

Hello,
Until now I don't own an AD42 this is why I am thinking of buying the AD60 because of the more efficient Power supply board. Admark is advertising it with 60% less heat produced and I am thinking that the AD60 has a more powerful Power supply. There is nearly no Price difference between AD42 and AD60. For sure I don't need this Power for 4 WSX but having enough Headroom for peaks is always good and having them run as cool as possible is also a point that would prolong the life of an electronic device I am just curious if someone has experiences with these relatively new GAN amplifiers.

Hello, Cabling to the speakers is all 6mm² and 4mm² and we have no problems giving the AMP 240V 32A. If you could decide between AD60 and AD42 what amp you would choose to buy if you need to buy amping for subs and cannot afford Linea or Powersoft Amping? I am a little scared AD60 could possibly have less Power than AD42 in heavy Bass use. I mean the technical data stating something different.

![]() So if I buy a AD442 and put it in bridge mode do you think it performs exactly the same like AD60? Best Regards.

A dB differential of +0.44 is inaudible. Comparing watts can fool many into assuming the higher wattage is louder. What matters is how well the Human ear can decipher the dB Differential. It usually takes the average person a differential of +3 dB to hear a difference.

The big question, is what amp/s are you now using? That will be the most important factor. The PR/Advertising Departments make their money trying to convince people that they need the Latest Model. It's one hell of a cut-throat market out there. I have the, possibly unusual experience of seeing (supposedly) lower power amps actually performing better than some over-inflated All-Singing & Dancing (modern) junk. And that said with no disrespect meant to Admark. I have never used anything from the brand and I doubt that I ever will. And +100 to the comment about thermal limits. Power Compression will negate all those "extra" watts you think you're getting. ![]() |

Right now I have no Amps for the WSX. I have two FP14000 LabGruppen clones that are powering 12x 15" BPH but I want to sell them together with these. I am now looking for some more efficient amping that I can afford. For Thermal/RMS Limiting I am using Linea ASC48 and I was also thinking about some additional cooling for the back chamber with Aluminium plates. The Limiters will be set carefully never Burnt a chassis until now. Actually I want to go with these Amps because I want to have enough Headroom for Peaks and they are the best Class-D Amps I could find for the Money I can spend right now. I am still not sure if I should go for the AD442 and bridge it or the AD60. Maybe I need to compare by Myselve and order AD442 and AD60. I can use the AD442 for the low mids if they perform less good than the AD60 in the low notes. |

"Maybe I need to compare by Myselve and order AD442 and AD60. I can use
the AD442 for the low mids if they perform less good than the AD60 in
the low notes." Yes, in the end it is a personal & subjective decision. All the spec sheets & opinions of others is ok, but finally down to your ears & taste. The price of these is absurdly low for the wattage, so who knows, but not that much to risk. You could always sell them on if they don't convince... |
