Well - here's a thing I've seen a coupla times recenrlty .... smallish setups (typically just a pair of RCF 15" active boxes used as full-range - recent versions with class D amps rated at 2100W peak :-) ) for outdoor events - but no generator. They're using "portable power stations" like Anker, Bluetti, Allpowers are selling into the caravan, boat, RV market, and larger ones into the off-grid/solar power market. These are really just chunky Lifepo4 batteries with built-in PSW inverters (and plenty of USB, USB-PD, 12V outlets). They're actually pretty neat things. PSW (pure sine wave) inverters seem to have come down dramatically in price, and with much improved eficiency. Now up until recently battery+inverter setups were't really a sensible choice to run off-grid sound, but these new power station things have probably changed that. They still wouldn't be with class AB amps IMHO ... So just wondering if this setup is widespread ... are folks seeing these setups pop up widely now ? One significant change is that you can get away with playing certain kinds of scenarios where generators would not be allowed .... quite apart from the noise and smell considerations. |

We are using Leoch 48v lithium ion battery 100aph with a Victron 48v Multiplus 2 3000w powering 4 RC1 Dwarfs which have class AB Amps, Pioneer XDJ and a mini m(cr)ackie desk with comp and FX. Gets nearly 8 hours of use off the one battery. Solar will be added via a pair of 24v panels.

Well...been doing that kinda setup for a few years ! No...class-ab won't work with a small batt setup but for the smaller gigs we do down here our little " Matrix" setup works fine... 1 x 15" sub with linea research class d amps in the back ...2 x 12"+1" tops, 1 x self powered 12"+1" stage monitor ...1 x 200amh 24v Li-po batt. 2 x 400w solar panels, all thru an Xair18 mixer. Done loads of gigs with this setup..comes with free dog...

[pedant mode on] I assume that the above quotes are referring to the capacity of the batteries. And, while I’m open to the fact that specific localities may have their own abbreviations, standard SI uses the abbreviation Ah, or A.h; as in Amp-hours. The capital A is due to the unit being named after a person, Monsieur Ampere. Given that Amps or Amperes are the flow of charge, and 1amp = 1 coulomb per sec, amps multiplied by time is technically the charge in coulombs. 1Ah = 3600C [/pedant mode off] |

Well - I was actually asking specifically about the integrated battery + inverter things like :- BLUETTI Elite 200 V2 2073.6Wh 2600W Portable Power StationAnker SOLIX C1000X Portable Power Station Battery 1056Whetc. These seem to be quite sophisticated blobs with extensive monitoring (usually via cellphone app/bluetooth) protection, etc. Some can cascade extra external battery boxes too. They all seem to quote peak values for AC output, which kinda implies amps or active speakers with power ratings above the nominal AC o/p of the pwer bank would work OK .... I think. Some also have UPS functionality. Quite expensive though. Should be good for folks who don't have knowledge/experience of battery handling/maintenance I would have thought. I 've been using lithium batteries to power small systems for years now .... but the high-efficiency PSW inverters seem to hove inverter->mains power option into view as a viable option for setups in the 1kW to 4kW range .... I just bought a 500W (1000W peak) chinese PSW inverter (less than £50) to have a play with. Might try running a berry NX3000 from it :-) .... see if the inverter can cope with some switch-on current inrush :-) Also - the price of Lifepo4 batteries has come down a good deal .... 200-300 ah can be had for £200-£400. 😀 Thank you! Yes I made the same mistake I've been doing for years. Was meant to be AH. I have dyscalculia and dyslexia over here. The amount times I end up editing mistakes out of my posts is insane.

Well its actually meant to be Ah ... pedantic man was quite correct .... although I'm sometimes a bit slack with it myself. There are times when it matters though I've seen MAH often enough (intended to be mAh - milli-amp hours) - but MAH or MAh is mega-amp hours = a million amps for an hour. Now that would be a very good battery eh ?

aha well go figure, not wasting half the power you consume for the majority of the time you don't even play anything does have its benefits!

Son, they have inrush limiting thermistors.

Son ? I'd be very surprised if you're a generation older than me !! ![]() But
yeah thats useful info (if correct) . No mention of that in the specs,
but certainly there's a couple of seconds after switch-on before the fan
fires up - which kinda implies that could be the case. Anyway my NX3000 does indeed fire up fine from the inverter (labelled
500W/1000W peak) - with no load mind. |

I'm confident you're a fair bit older than me lol.
Looking on the inside of both my iNuke NU3000 and other people's NX3000 amps revealed to me they have an inrush limiting component, in this case just an NTC power thermistor. It's the large black disc. The few seconds before it actually turns the fan on are the few seconds it waits for the DC power supply to stabilise after slowly ramping up the AC voltage. At the same time, it also bypasses the NTC thermistor if I'm not mistaken. |
