hi there!

i wonder if someone could help me out.

i just received my digital controller.

what would you suggest for x-over (Low Pass Filter) points for four pd1850 with void v18's in it.

and also what kind of filter would you advice me to use (butter, bessel, link-releay ) and how much db (6,12,18,24,58)?

i would like to get the best out of them, but dont have any opportunities to measure it realy. i can only do an A/B test with 2 different settings, but than i have only my person opinion, since no expert is around :)

my current configurations looks like this.

well four id be cutting off at 45/40hz, [ie high pass, not leeting any frequencies below 45/40hz] upper crossover woould depend on what you have above and what musical styl you generaly play.

er, what have you got to go on top hen? personaly i think the 1850 does a rather good job of the bottom end for tekno/hard trance, the times i heard them they seemed to give a nice 40<80hz,
i do prefer a 3 way on top, ie kick mid and hi, x-over at about 80hz but thats purely my personal thoughts.

ooooh, sounds nice, but one thing i will say is [but without more details i may be wrong] but getting an 8" down to meet an 1850 which generaly prefers to be crossed around 150hz at the most. maybey you will need a kick bin inbetween,
but for all i know you may have an 8" mid that will play down to 120hz, if they wont play this low id suggest a kick bin to take over around 80hz and play up to your mids, if they do play low enough then cross as low as they will alow i guese.
would a kick bin make things too complex???

definitely a kick bin if your play kick heavy music like techno used my mates 186 horns with my X15's at the weekend and to get it to sound good i had to crossover at about 130hz to get a good amount of kick and the 186's seemed to start sounding abit boomey over 90hz. It still sounded pretty good but im sure it would have sounded a lot better with some HD15's with the X15's or some x-tro's. Think im going to go the x-tro route...

I cross my 1850s at 150Hz and it's usable up there. 120Hz is optimum but not many mid-tops will stretch that low.

I'd be very suprised if 8" drivers go low enought to meet the 1850s. Your's better off getting something to go inbetween. An HD15 will strugle to meet an 8" so you'll need something like the JBL 4560 perhaps. Somethign with a straight horn is best but unless it is vented like the JBL box i mentioned it will tend to be pretty big. There is an emminence designed horn that may also work well.

if your willing to go for entirely new mid tops, get some x-tros,,, mt122 would work well but you may as well go 4 way and be done with it!
