HI, I'' VE RECENTLY BUILT TWO XM15s LOADED WITH B&C PK40 DRIVER AND A B&C DE500 COMP MOUNTED ON 18SOUND 1086 HORNS.I''M PLEASED BY THE WAY THEY SOUND BUT LOOKING AT THE SPECS OF NDL76 DRIVERI THINK THEY WOULD SOUND MUCH DEEPER AND LOUNDER.HAS ANYONE TRIED IT OR ITS NOT WORTH REPLACING THEM?

In fact... it doesn't work that way.
Speaker cabinets are made for a certain speaker. Another speaker could work better in a cabinet, but most likely not. If another works better, than the original speaker or cabinet wasn't designed as it should. Anyway, a better result with another speaker is in most cases a matter of dumb beginners luck, not knowledge. The proper way is simulating various speakers in a certain cabinet and tune for the wanted result. One speaker is better suited for lower tuning, another might be better for more SPL but less low extension. Those two words "louder" and "deeper" don't go together as in both more. It's one or the other or a balance between them, not both of them more. In this case, the 15NDL76 could give more SPL if tuned higher, but will certainly not go lower than the 15PK40. The NDL76 is more suited for hornloading or higher BR tuning than the PK40. Qes/Qts values of less than 0,3 are indicators for less low respons/more SPL. The graphs on the B&C website of both those speakers also indicate the less low respons of the NDL76. Edited by Peter Jan - 16 October 2009 at 6:28pm |

I use B&C 15PLB76 in a wedge with the same volume and tuning as the XM15 and they work very nicely...

I use the 15NW76 in wedges which has parameters even more towards the hornloading end of the scale but they are seriously good. Only usable up to about 1.5kHz though and the low end does require EQ to flatten it out if necessary.

reading the specs for 15ndl 76 we can see that it has a lower fs,a bigger bl and a lower qts than the p-audio sn15mb.it also has a very good efficiency, so i think it will work better not only from the pk 40 but also the p-audio driver that the site recomended.the b&c 12ndl76 is a very good driver for monitors especially when it's used doubled together with a 1,4 comp so i'll give it a try with the 15inches version..

futhermore i wouldn't except the xm15 to drop lower with another driver but adding a hd15 under it i think it could be a very decent wedge for a drummer
