Topic: System with 8 C-subs & 4 MT 122sPosted: 06 April 2006 at 2:04pm |

Im planning to build a system consisting of 8 C-sub's and maybe 4 MT122's, or do you recomend any other of the speakerplans given on the site?
In the C-sub's im planning to use the Eminence Klimax Pro 18" elements, and in the mt 122's i dont really know which element that would be most efficient!? Lets say this is a good combination of the C-subs & MT 122's, how big crowd could it manage? Could it manage 1500 people? I would be grateful for ideas for this project! Greetings, Samuel

C-sub + MT122 will not work without a kick bin or similar between the
two. C Sub stops around 120Hz or lower and the MT122 only goes
down to 160Hz or so.
I would not recommend the C sub unless you need lots of sub for D'n'B or similar. For that size crowd you probably want at least 8x 1850 Horns with 4 MT122's. |

Aha okay. Thanks for the answer!
Which sub would be the best to build? And do you have any recomendations in which midrange speakers i can use? |

Firstly it would help to know what type of music do you mostly use the system for, and what type and size of venues.
The main decision is whether to use a single bass bin such as the 1850 to play from around 50Hz to 160Hz or a two-way setup with a dedicated sub horn such as the punisher combined with a kick bin eg HD15 crossed over at 60-80Hz. Do you definitely want to use MT122's? There may be other options for your application. |

The main type of music would be like trance/dance & some hiphop.
No the MT122's was just an idea! But if you have a some better ideas i would appreciate them! =) For now im just fooling around with some ideas of an nice audio rig. Right now i got 2 * PD186 Horns (with eminence omega 18" drivers) and 2 * double 15" VOLT speakers with a 2" horn, this system manages around 300 people. And in this summer im planning to build something bigger and better, that maybe manages 600-1000 people. The elements that i would like to use in the subs/horns, what so ever, would be the Eminence Kilomax pro 18" because its a "low cost" driver with lots of power, pretty neat sound, and is durable! So im open for any ideas! Thanks for giving me suggestions! =) |

Firstly, please get the Kilomax out of your head. Unless you're using
it as a cinema subwoofer in a massive box they're the wrong
driver! There are plenty of topics on this forum about it.
Are your bass horns the 186 design from this site? If you like them I suggest you need some more of them. One per side probably doesn't sound all that good. If you can build up maybe 2 or 3 per side and load them with good drivers (eg PD186) you'll be heading in the right direction. Your choice for mid-tops is probably either MT122's or X12's. Or you could build more twin 15" + 2" cabs, or maybe single 15" tops. It may be possible to improve on your current design if you're not happy with the sound. |

a PD186 cone costs less and kicks its ass something fearce! get the omegas out of the 186 bins pronto and put PD's in you really can feel the difference! for 170 quid a pd 186 they are pretty good value! just get more of them. in stacks of 4 they sound great and throw the bass for atleast 50m

Yeah and put at least 1000w rms through each 186 horn [when loaded with PD186], and then it will shake the building.

Hello! Back again! Im having problems of reaching this forum from my home computer so it isnt often i can get here. What do you guys think of building 2 or 4 additional pd186 folded horns for my system already consisting of 2 pd186's? So there will be 2 or 3 horns on each side. |

did you read the post by ceharden? as you have two your better off building buying more of them than starting again. get to 4 a side to take advantage of horn coupling and you should be pretty happy for a while |
