Depends on thickness and built quality really. Generally I'd say ply should have edge over ringing fiber glass.
Myself, if I would go as far as making moulds and all that trouble, I would not bother with MT121 shape. I would make throat smoother aswell expansion... |

Phase bunged redesign is not financially feasible.
Very happy with existing MT121 sound. Looking from standpoint of fabrication time, weight reduction, total manufacture cost.
Have heard quite few fibre glass horns (not only Turbo/FK1), that also sound very good. Edited by levyte357 - 22 February 2012 at 6:02pm |

Well the point is that you anyway need to build the mould to the horn, you might as well refine the design, keep the throat area same, keep mouth area the same but make expansion bit smoother and make the throat round. Won't make much difference to the point you're actually making the fiber horns..

no point in making expensive moulds and fiberglass horns for a diy cab that isnt perfect on its own.
Either diy mt121 or P*rnhorn/Limmer etc. Phaseplug and redesign would be a must if i would be going the "pro" route! Fabrication time of fiberglass horns is higher than gluing 4 pieces of wood in a box if all wooden parts get cut with cnc to plan to safe on labour Weight reduction wont be much at all. Doubt that total manufacturing costs would be any lower than a reasonable batch cncd cabs. |

I think you can still loose the weight by making the outershell with 15mm ply and neo-drivers that would bring you down with about 10/15kg , so don´t start making plans for the funeral yet

Was definitely gonna be 15mm std birch all round, but Neo drivers price are thru the roof at the moment. |

I will have such horns in offering in a month or so. Round throat, square mouth, smooth transition.
Now the million dollar question, what is a reasonable price for a horn like that?
