Bit of a long shot here but can any of the older members remember the old Custom Sound factory in the old church in Oswestry.
If you do then can you enlighten me as to what happened to the main man--Barry Phillips as the last thing that I can remember was that he left the UK to go abroad. Back in the old days, I had a very good relationship with all of the guys at Custom sound--Pete Keeling left them to start up the ACES brand(he was also my repair guy in our Wolverhampton shop for a while) and he did rather well for a few years and I helped Custom Sound out by organising one or two endorsement deals along the way with some decent artists---Cheers John.. |

I never thought of Phil---we were good friends back in the day when he was on the road selling Custom Sound before he went one better flogging Fenders--cheers.

![]() I first met Phil back when he first brought the TC stuff over and have done a few jobs for him over the years. Always good to have a catch up with him.Edited by fatfreddiescat - 04 July 2023 at 12:17am |

Hi,
Did you get a reply to your long shot query last year about Barry Phillips? I might be able to help you - I’m his son! Cheers

Hi Steve---Sorry but I did not progress any further with this as we have been very busy trying to move house and also now have a few health problems at 74 years old so everything is on hold at the moment---cheers--John.

Hi, John,
Sorry to hear that - hope that you are on the mend. My dad did go to foreign parts - first Yorkshire, then Canada, where he still lives now at age 85. Good luck with the house move. Cheers, Steve

I recently came into possession of a PA amp made by them. Here are some
pics. I cant find any info on this but I think its worth sharing. Im not
sure what Custom Sound were known for, if anyone has any information that would be great. I want to preserve this potential piece of history, even if not very valuable. ![]() |

Yes--Custom Sound used to badge up one or two of their popular sellers for some of their biggest dealers of which Kitchens were one of them back in the 1970s.
The amp in your pics is a re-badged Trucker 100 watt PA model which was a very reliable budget model. |

I think it was around 1985 or 86---at the time Custom Sound were using FAL to make their cabinets and from what I can remember they built up quite a debt on Account so Fal ended up doing a deal and taking them over.

I think it was in 1982. Custom Sound had cash flow issues and became part of Audio Fidelity, run by the Powells.
