On the hunt for a proper plan for the S1 the ones online don't match my cabinets at all in that the horn path has 3kinks in the back section on the plan but is straight in my cabinet I presume my cabinets are correct as I know Martin put out wrong plans but when I contacted them they don't hold any info on such old products
Looking to build four more so would be good if some one could take a picture of the inside of one

Or on the off chance someone has some for sale loaded or not  would be great

Martin have never put out any drawings. Any you can find on the internet have been drawn up by various people taking measurements of their cabinets, and vary in quality.

The "S Bin" was designed by Bill Webb and Dave Martin in the early 1980s. The S2 was really an installation cabinet and wouldn't fit through doorways. The S1 was just a half size S2.

These bins were eventually replaced by the WSX.

Send me a PM and I may be able to help you with some more information.

I used to own 4 x Martin Audio S1 and 2 x Martin Audio S2.

The S2 was so big and heavy that it was not practical. The S1 is a lovely box (never got on with the position of the handles though).

After waiting for a long time I could not find any more for sale other than the four that I already had (which did good service leased to a venue in Birmingham for a couple of years), so I sold the lot many years ago. I think you will be very lucky to find any S1 for sale in this country.

Here are photos showing the driver chamber of the S1 and S2, together with a couple of stack photos of S1 and S2 which I took for my ebay advert. Unfortunately I do not have any other photos of the "internals".

Weren't there some S bins around the dance floor in the Birmingham Dome night club, mid 80's?

Encore installed a set of S1 bins under the stage at Dingwalls in Camden, and I think there were S2's in the old Hammersmith Palais.

Yes, at the Birmingham Dome there was a single S2 on each corner of the dancefloor.

Hammersmith Palais was a serious system. Called Le Palais when I went there.

Went there quite a few times on a saturday night. Big glizy nightclub. Proper lighting. Plush seating. Maybe 2000 capacity. Always packed. Rectangular room, arranged side on.

Stage on one side of the room, with stairs leading up and over it onto a balcony.

On the other side of the was a huge bar and seating area with stairs leading up to it, overlooking the dancefloor in the middle of the room.

Underneath this huge bar and seating area were 2 x S2 at each end.

This had been supplemented by 2 x S2 at each end sat on the floor of the bar and seating area.

So basically you had two stacks separated by a few metres, each of which was like the stack in the photo in my last post.

Mid / tops were flown Martin horn loaded boxes.

The good old days.

Those big Martin top boxes may have been the ones I helped to build and install, they were custom made for the venue. We were asked to do an upgrade and replaced the flown system and the crossovers. The hi-mid compression drivers were specials, hand built by Dave Martin on some vintage JBL magnet assemblies.

Although we originally specified new (bigger) amplifiers, the old ones had to be retained for budget reasons. Consequently the system was a bit under-powered and would run into the limiters when driven hard.

It was expected that the amplifiers would be upgraded eventually, but a few years later they did a deal with Stephen Court who replaced the whole system. We were a bit miffed, but that's how it goes...

It was sad to see the place demolished at the end of the 2000's.

After lots of searching in my "archive" I found this article from 1986:

It shows one side of the "built-in" 2 x S2. (Two more S2 per side were added above these when I went there, as I mentioned earlier).

Also shows the mid /top boxes that "Madboffin" spoke about.

Sound for 2300 people with 8KW of amps is pretty good. Bet it didnt lack volume either.

Ah yes, back when speakers were (generally) more efficient and it was possible to get a lot of spl for not a lot of watts, which, perhaps with the exception of companies like FK1, seems to be a bit of a lost art these days.
And if they were using C Audio amps it may have been 'only' 8kw on paper but these were proper heavyweight old school watts! LOL

Yes, but they weren't the only amplifiers in the system. They would have been driving the subs.

As I mentioned earlier, the rest of the amplifiers were overdue for an upgrade. I can't remember what they were (200/300W Harrisons, maybe?), but definitely too small to provide enough headroom for everything else. We set the limiters just below the amplifier clip points, for protection.
