Hi all,
I’m considering building a few Staiper Miniscoops (MS-18). They would replace my four Cubo 18s. Current cabinets are fairly small, lightweight and seems to give decent output for their simplicity. But unimpressive below about 40Hz. I’ve really taken an interest in scoops after reading the forum a couple of years. Yeah I know mini scoops don’t qualify as scoops according to many, but the hybrid design may be exactly what I’m looking for. As I live in the armpit of Scandinavia, there’s zero chance to listen to any of these to inform my decision making. My question is whether the MS-18s will sound fairly well across music genres? I absolutely love the size of these mini scoops. The extra weight and size compared to Cubos is surely acceptable if what it would get me is more output. I enjoy some reggae, dub, minimal techno, bass music as well as some hip hop. Must be able to work decently across genres for it to be worth the effort and expense. So I’d love for someone to give their opinion based on my scenario. Planned drivers would my B&C 18NW100s. And I plan to deploy them with cubo kick 15s above. I have built a pair of SyntripP for top cabs. I’m hesitant about cutting wood due to costs. Any advice and opinions appreciated!

I had four modified ms18 mk1's loaded with v18-1000's and found them very impressive, they were used for general PA work and had anything from rock, pop, drum & bass to edm, techno and hard tech/hardstyle played through them. The best I can describe the sound is typical 'PA' but with more than a hint of scoop growl. They needed a bit of low shelf eq and at least two of them stacked together to get the best out them but they would play into the high 30's with authority, they sounded pretty clean up to about 150hz and were surprisingly punchy but I crossed them over at 100hz.
Four of them driven with a few KW of power were pretty devastating even in some quite big rooms, I definitely never found them lacking! TL:DR; Yes, they're just as versatile as reflex cab IMO.
