Hi all,
Me and my mate are finally going to follow through on our longterm plan of getting a Sound together. We have inherited two unidentified 18" scoop boxes and I wanted to reach out to the forum to see if we could get some help either identifying the build or get some input regarding recommended drivers to put into them. The boxes came from the UK and look like they have been around the block a few times. We dont want to throw a pair of new drivers into them if they are likely to resonate apart and disintegrate on us! Boxes are roughly 600x600x1200 Cant seem to include the images but here are the links: https://imgur.com/nFoQQ0F https://imgur.com/Cr8nxIl https://imgur.com/fQPuwCA https://imgur.com/JNVfyBF Edited by macca061 - 05 March 2025 at 4:55pm |

For some reason pictures from imgur can't be embedded using the forums picture inserting function.
Please have a look at the posting toolbar, in the top row there are tools for embedding weblinks, pictures, videos. I made your picture links clickable. |

That pair of old warhorses looks rough as hell.
It appears as if the side panels consist of veneered mdf. You need to do some more digging to find out if they are any good. Without more detailed info, no one will be able to give you any credible advice. Which drivers are they currently loaded with? Try to measure them up more precisely. Take the woofer out, make exact measurents of the backchamber, size of the throat etc. Ideally also try to measure the last part of the horn path, from inside the cabinet.

I am reliably informed that the scoops are Larry Dub built.

They are very similar to Larry Dubs true. All the Larry Dubs that I owned, had handles cut out at the bottom. They also seem very shallow. Larry Dub scoops were usually 750mm deep.

Will do, they're housed in a mates shop at the moment but when I get into them next I'll whip out the driver and post a more informative pic!
