No impedance plot available yet but specs looks better than the Eminence tour grade.

Faital sure knows how to make a sexy driver.
as for whether it is "better" that would probably depend on application. 18 mm Xmax isn't groundbreaking ( Eminence has 22 mm ) but is quite decent. output above 50 hz or so should be extremely high due to high BL, high power handling and relatively low ( for a 21" subwoofer ) moving mass. as for impedance the datasheet has all the Thiele-Small parameters so a program like HornResp can calculate everything for you including charting the impedance curve. HornResp will also calculate efficiency and maximum SPL based on power handling and excursion at any given frequency. you could load the Faital and the Eminence into it and compare the results. but even without modeling i am going to say Faital will beat Eminence above 50 hz and Eminence will beat Faital below 40 hz ( due to slightly longer Xmax ). this will be true in almost any box. if you have a specific box in mind i can model it for you, but frankly the choice will probably come down to pricing and availability in any given region. that is to say where i am i can get good deals on some drivers and not others. same for amps etc. Edited by Line Array - 26 March 2025 at 3:21am |

very strange looking cone.
looks corrugated on the front but not the back. ![]() |

datasheets don't include the parameters to run a semi-inductance model which need to be derived from the impedance curve. Le/Re isn't particularly high for this driver so difference from simple model won't be very big. Hornresp model of my subs is showing ~1dB more max output for the eminence from 40-65Hz. Below this they are equal, above the faital has 3dB more max output. Edited by snowflake - 26 March 2025 at 10:25am |

aside from the 6.5" vs 6.0" voice coil the main difference between these two drivers IMHO is Faital uses Aluminum VC and Eminence Copper
by using Aluminum the Faital can wind more wire without moving mass getting ridiculous and ultimately ends up with higher motor force with lower moving mass versus the Eminence and that's where the extra output comes from at higher frequencies at lower frequencies you will be Xmax limited as a BL monster with aluminum VC this Faital is then more like B&C iPal than the Eminence, but of course the B&C is 1 ohm and Faital is 8 ohm ... the Faital also has a more usable FS of 30 versus much higher FS for the iPal basically the iPal simply isn't designed to work with anything but actual PowerSoft system whereas this Faital is a normal subwoofer, but with some of the characteristics of the iPal ( high BL / aluminum VC ) i think 8 ohm is too high though. this is a 6,000W program driver. you need 220V to push 6KW into 8 ohms - what amp can deliver 220V RMS ? they should release a 4 ohm version IMHO.

bridge into a pair of them for a 4 load. Needs to be a good amp that isn't current limiting at low impedance. |

indeed. i have exposed myself as somebody who has never hard to deal with long cable runs. bridging like this would definitely save on cables. i feel stupid.

Am i the only one getting not so impressive results in simulation of this driver?
Sure, it can take lot of power but it is showing barely 1-1.5db advantage at certain frequencies over the 21NTLW5000 ant that is purely because it can handle more power. Lets see what the end user price will be but i dont think paying almost twice for it over the 18sound 21NLW9601 as example will justify the investment.

i put this Faital into my horn model i originally made for Eminence Tour Grade Dual Voice Coil version ( meant for home theater )
![]() spoiler alert, the performance is basically identical to the Eminence. here is Eminence: ![]() and here is Faital: ![]() for Eminence in the "max SPL" tool i'm using 2500W input and 21mm xmax while for Faital i am using 3000W input and 17.67mm xmax actually upon closer inspection the Faital does beat the Eminence by a pretty wide margin above 100 hz or so but not sure how that is relevant. Faital has significantly lower moving mass and somewhat higher power handling so at higher frequencies you would expect it to pull away like this. but at lower frequencies light weight is not important while xmax is, so it is roughly even with the Eminence. i more or less expected this result - the reason i did this exercise is because as others pointed out this driver would "shine" in an application where you could see the back of it. in this particular horn design because you can't see the front of the driver and you need to know somehow if you're driving it too hard there should be a plexiglass window into the chamber ( that also acts as an access hatch for replacing the driver ) and you could conceivably even put some LED lighting in there to illuminate the driver. if the price ends up being comparable to the Eminence and you're doing an application like this where the back of the driver is visible then sure, i would use it. it looks very "Italian" while the Eminence looks like some kind of a truck axle or something, which depending on situation might be the look you're going for too. however Eminence being made in USA and Faital in Italy i think it will come down to where you're located and what the tariff situation is at the time. thought I saw it listed for just over £600 when I first looked the other day. Says substantially more than that now. |
