Could anyone please tell me why the drivers sit on a 'V' inside these cabs and how this changes sound/performance from a G SUB for example? Cheers...

It reduces baffle size and strengthens the cabinet, as far as i'm aware this method doesn't offer any acoustic advantages

Cheers guys! Could you (or any other SPers) tell me how you'd work out making the change from a G SUB as on the plans to a G SUB with this 'V' structure, should we go with this option? Would we basically just be aiming to have the same volume BEHIND the baffle? Cheers...

Basically, yes. As far as I know the internal shape doesn't make a big difference to the tuning, it is the port length, port cross sectional area and internal volume that are the main factors.

I think the position of the port relative to the drivers does make some difference, as does the shape of the port (particularly the end of it). You are into fairly advanced modelling if you want to predict exactly how these factors will affect your finished cab.

Most builders would probably advise building a prototype (MDF is good for this) first to check it sounds / performs the way you want it to.

I'm not an expert builder (have only designed one cabinet, with the help of WinISD), there's lots of folk on here with much more experience than me so hopefully someone else will chip in.

It all depends what angle is used between the drivers, as at some point it will start to function as a chamber with a flared port like a manifold design

Also it`s two seperate chambers . The "V" baffle joins to a central baffle to make a "y" shape. The rest you can work out !

.p.
Mostly harmless.... except if catering is shut.

Ah, so each driver is in it's own chamber, makes better sense, particularly in the event of driver failure

THANK YOU! So, the tail of the 'Y' actually seperates the cab into two chambers, didn't realise that, what advantages does this give in the event of a driver failing? And if we were to work on this, do we split the internal volume of the G SUB in half and go from there, or is there (as I'm guessing) quite a bit more to it than that? Cheers again for the advice and excusing the ignorance...

Hi, would like to make 2 subs and get 2x18" speakers into each cabinet based on G Sub design, but want cabinet dimensions to be 1000x500x750 which is smaller than G Sub design. could "V" be the answer to making G Sub smaller?
