Handle position on speaker box

I couldn't seem to load any of the photobucket photos unfortunately, so I cant answer your question, but here are some of my thoughts on fixing and positioning of handles:


Adam Hall 34082 - Sprung recessed drop handle.


Adam Hall 3402 - Recessed bar handle.

Use for heavy speakers that need to be lifted up by the handles. Easier on the hands than sprung drop handles.



Fixing of the handles - you do not want the handle ripped out of the box!

Pilot each fixing hole carefully first. Choose exactly the correct diameter of screw to fit your pilot hole.

When you choose which type of screw to use, find one where the threads stick out as much as possible, so that they grip as much as possible into the woodwork of the box.


Positioning of the handles:

Build the box and load the driver, before putting the handles in. Then get a rolling pin or something similar and balance the box on it, and use this information to get the handles in exactly the right place. So when you lift the box your wrist doesnt get twisted.

I don't like handles too low on boxes, as it puts a lot of stress on your back if you have to "reach right down" (no leaning forwards) to pick up the box. Horn paths to think about too.

The orientation of the handles on the box. They do not want to be positioned in a way that if you are lifting a bass bin from the ground onto a stack for example, that you could possibly twist and damage your hand.

So plan how you are going to stack the box before you rout the holes for the handles.
