Reggae sounds like Iration Steppas and Abashanti sometimes use 4 scoops on each side.

Does this mean theyre running these at 1ohm?

My understanding is that the first scoop would be 8ohm's then into the next would make it 4ohm's and into the next would be 2ohm's and finally into the forth would make it 1ohm!!

Is this correct or do they change the curcuit on the last scoop (parallel/series??) to take it back up from 2ohm's to 4ohm's???

Or am i just totally wrong alltogether???  Embarrassed

Allo mate Smile

i use 3 T18 copies (B&C loaded Wink) on each side of a VZ5000, that drops down to 2OHMS per side. Never really needed more so never really tried.
The sounds systems your talkin bout use amps like JTS or DESTRUCTOR which i didnt actually know dropped down to 1-OHM! If they do that is? It may be worth lookin up these amps on the net - i know JTS has a website but not to sure bout the other one.

THIS IS MY FIRST POST SO;

4 8 ohm speakers in parallel is 2 ohms. The only dodgy thing about this rating is that although speakers have an 8 ohm rating, it is common for them to dip to 7.5 ohms, so you would end up with less than 2 ohms. In horn cabs you can get away with it, because through compression, the impedence has alreay risen from the start. In a reflex cab you can only depend on net impedence.

Impedence and the number of cabinets have no relevence untill you take into account what impedence the speakers inside are. Start with 8. For 2- 8ohm cabs divide 8 by2=4 for 3- 8 ohm cabs divide 8 by 3=2.6666 for 4- 8 ohm cabs divide 8 by 4= 2 and so on. The same applies to all impedences For series wireing just reverse everything.

Apparently the JTS annihilator  can cope with 1 ohm (6 scoops) per side.
What you have to remember is that the lower the load you present to an amp the harder it has to work.

The formula for impedance in parallel is:

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 ... + 1/Rn

where Rt is the total impedance and R1-n are all your speakers.
If you're connecting in series you just add them all together.

Iration runs his scoops at 2ohms off a Void infinite 8. He has an annihilator but I haven't seen him use it.

Some drivers do come in 16 ohm versions as well though.
