ive been thinking of a nice modular system using
hd15s loaded with jbl E140s and then building a mid top using a
1.5 exit driver and a jbl E120.
build the cabinet to the same dimensions as the hd15 cab with the 12" driver horn loaded then we figure out how many hd15s for 1 mid/top and you just increase the number of cabs for bigger events keeping the same ratio cabs i got the idea looking at the alpha nexo systems so i dunno if this is even possible to horn load a 12" in an hd15 size cab but id love to hear your inputcheers |

Take a look at Dom's system pics on the main site to get an idea of dimensions for a single 12" horn. I think you'd struggle to get a horn in the height of the cab unless you used one with very narrow vertical dispersion and getting the comp driver in might be a bigger problem. I believe Dom's 12" overhang the rear of the HD15's by a way too. If you could compromise and make the mid/tops cab tall enough to accomodate all the bits and modify the horn so it was the depth you needed then it could work. I'd say 3 HD15's to 1 top box but you'd need a good 12" on that.

We currently use 1 12" driver over 4 HD15s. It would happily keep up with 6 I'm sure. |

If you stuck a hornloaded 8" above the twelve then crossed to a 1" you might get a box with more aesthetically pleasing dimensions I know on one of rogs cabs on his old bigmouthspeakers website he had a hornloaded 12" 8" and 1" which would cover the frequency band better anyway. I believe the 8" and the 1" sat side by side above the 12" as well and were no wider than it. This way of course you could lower the vertical dispersion of the 12". It all depends how many top cabs you are using a side and if you wish to array them. Obviously if you do then you are looking at a different layout perhaps mount the comp driver infront of the 12" like in this design http://www.speakerstore.nl/index.php?l=nl&pg=11&c=12 Stu |

i was actually thinking of a design like that
but i dont know how to go about figuring out how to build the horn for optimal sound i could always design something that looks right and hope to hell it sounds good ![]() and what if i used a 10" mid instead of a 12"?? |

Hornloaded 10" speakers won't go below 200Hz. You can force them to do, but the sound gets worse and you'll get very limited output in the lowmids. Of course one can design a 10" horn that will go lower, but the output would reduce. So if your HD15 play good to 200Hz and a bit above you could do it. BTW if you setup one stack and let's say you need three HD15 for one top that doens't yctually mean you need 6 HD15 for two tops. The ratio changes, because you get coupling in bass but the directivity won't change that much. With tops it's another story. You don't want overlap with the tops so they will be set up that every top is directed to another area. So you won't get higher 'outputs per area' (energy) with more tops. But in bass range you'll get more... |

I wouldnt go designing a flare for an 8" without proper knowledge. I dont have the knowledge so i will attempt to look for someone that makes a flare for an 8". I know ive seen two manufactured horns (like porn horns) on the web somewhere i just cant remember where. Il see what i can dig up Stu |
