I'm building a set of 4 1850 horns and thinking about how to protect the cones from the stuff I know ends up inside speakers (I don't know how some of that stuff gets in there..)
Obviously a full length grill is one solution (like in the pictures of the Earthquake horns on another thread) or a standard 18" round grille over the cone is another (although only before final assembly). Wondering what solutions other people have used, anybody put a grill midway along the horn path? |

Being a horn freak, I love to see the horns in the cabs, But it's always at a price. Coats, cans and unmentionable things find there way in. So full size grills do it for me. |

I like the "recessed grill look" . Cut parallel slots in either side of the horn mouth and spring load a grill in there...
If you look at this pic there`s a couple of slots in the horn mouth...
and another just under the edge of the black paint. Turbosound did it with their 718`s .p. |

surely the only way bottles, balloons and what not are going to get down to the baffle is if you have them upside down?!

i have some turbo horns similar to hd15s, and when they're on their side in the stacks, people seem to stash drink bottles and stuff around the corner out of site in the horn. every morning of a festival last summer i removed more stuff from them. don't underestimate people's ingenuity. and then all you have to do is lift a box, or turn it upside down during manoevers and whatever is inside eh... falls to the top... so to speak. someone here or squatjuice did rotation diagrams for removing bottles from 1850s once...

I nearly lost a sale recently because when I went to test the 1850 for the buyer it was making a horrible rattleing noise. It tuned out that a plastic cup had got all the way round the horn and wedged itself next to the driver.

I can beat that, loud horrible metal sound after a party once, I think that my friends thought the driver was rubbing. Took it out to check and a tiny, very very squashed metal toy car fell out with it

I was refurbing some WSX's they had a coke can and water bottle (half full) lodged in the mouth area directly infront of the driver. Also there was a few ecstacy pills and womens hair clips
