Hi: my first post here. Onur Ilkorur has a nice web site at this address http://www.yildiz.edu.tr/~ilkorur/ There are two cabinet designs there which are very similar to the HD15, one in particular is very similar. I was wondering if anybody here could do simulations of Onur's cabinet and compare it to the HD15? Thanks moray james. I also posted on the HD15 forum. I have tried to post the drawings but cannot figure out how. The design in question is on Onur's site and is the only Beyma driver there. |

Have alook at this address http://www.yildiz.edu.tr/~ilkorur/speaker/beyma.htm There are two designs there, the one with the opening behind the driver is intended that that opening not be covered. This in part deals with driver motor structure cooling and is accounted for in the design. the other cabinet simply mounts the driver into the front section of the conical mouth. This too deals with air flow over the motor structure much like a mini back loaded horn cabinet. Thanks for your reply best regards Moray james. |

Hi, The first one is a scaled down version of the TSE. The HD-15 is a hybride between hornloaded and 4th order bandpass as is the second design. The TSE is a hybride between hornloaded and bassreflex, this could be simulated as backloaded horn (VRC en LRC both nil) with VTC beïng the backchamber now (remember it's in cubic centimeters not liters). The one with no sealed rear chamber will require good subsonic filtering.

"8 of them full-fills a football field with ease."

I have not constructed either the HD15 or Onur's cabinet so I cannot comment on "Stereokiller's" comments. I would assume that a low frequency filter woulld be required. As to how many cabinets it takes to fill a football field well I am no judge but different cabinets and different drivers will account for different performance. I might suggest that if anyone is interested and they have some HD15's at hand they can run them with service entry door removed at which point they will have a close approximation of Onur's cabinet design. The vent on the back side of Onur's cabinrt is 436X400. The driver he uses is a Beyma 15K200. Or if you like some one can simulate the cabinet/driver combo. I should think that removal of an HD15's service door will give you a good idea of how things will sound. Post here if anyone tries this out. Thanks Moray James.

I might also add that Onur discribes how he sets these cabinets up like a "W" style bin so that might be well worth looking at also. Regards Moray James.
