Owing to my repuation as a bit of a 'speaker nut' i was very kindly given an unmatched pair of Jamo 3-way speakers at the weekend.
One is a D266 and the other is a D265. Anyway, the tweeters had blown so i thought i'd take them apart and see if anything was salvagable. One cabinet had a rather nice Eminence Beta 12A in good condition. It's rated at 250W RMS (even though the cabinet is rated at 150w RMS). The other cab contained what i suspect could well be a contender for the world's worst speaker. ![]() ![]() Can anyone beat this? ![]() |

Jamo did some "Pro 200EX" cabs, which were 10 inch plus 2 tweeters. They actually didn't sound too bad, but were only about 92dB efficient. However the worst thing was that the 10" drivers were very expensive to replace and were a non standard voice coil size so even a good re-cone man couldn't do them. HORRIBLE.

i had a speaker once with 2 different 12" drivers in it.. and one of them was very old.. and (i didn't know anything like as much about speakers back then as i do now) it had, from memory, like.. a metal sort of square ring on the back of the driver.. mounted on the magnet.. but i'm sure i remember this weird ring thing (like.. a bracket maybe) where the magnet would go. right that's a terrible description.. i'm gonna try and do a drawing of what i'm thinking...

Cravings, iv got something like that on the shelf, with that weird square mounted magnet on a cast chassis and thick green felt around the outer edge for rear mounting, i think it is either celestion or wharfdale, iv got lots of odd old cones that i cant bring my self to chuck away,

TOA SL112 cos they sound crap and anything sounds better!! even good old scott boxes sound nicer!!
Death to toa boxes, I unfortunatly due to budget restraints supplied a couple to a venue a number of years ago, and really wish I hadn't, but they couldnt aford anything else, i have opened them up to repair a couple of times and the drivers actualy look worse and cheaper than that, they look like somthing out of a tandy raidio!!
(got that off my chest hehe)

its cleverly designed so the magnet doesn't use up too much precious cabinet volume.
