I have not long built a pair of 184subs and already they are doing my head in, they sound very retardded. I am running them with an ep2500 amp a cx2310 xover and a mdx1600 comp/limiter. I have also tried them with a dimension4 with built in xover and no change, but they do sound louder when ran without any xovers can any one help me?!!!!!

What drivers did you use in them? If you used drivers that werent in the plans thats a likely reason why they sound crap. And where you set the crossover point? But they sound louder with no x over because the driver is getting a full range signal, but will sound crap if everything comes out of it[should only be bass frequencies]. As the 184 sub is a bandpass design, x over it at 90hz-70hz for it to sound the best. Also bridge the EP2500 or Numark Dimension 4 to drive both subs in bridge mode as long as you used 8 ohm drivers. As both those amps in stereo mode don't give enough power and are likely to clip. Behringer gives 500w rms per channel into 8 ohm Numark Dimension 4 gives 412w rms into 8 ohms per channel. Also did you port the cabs correctly,as to the plans???, cos if they are badly tuned, they can sound terrible.

I have a pair that I have used bridged on an EP2500 and all I can say about them is that the sound great.
I bandpass them at 35 - 100 hz and they give out sh*tloads of high quality bass. I would only ever use the PD184 in them why compromise for a few Bob. Tony p.s. I presume you have tried them with suitable Mids/tops? |

A friend of mine's looking for a powerfull bassbin. Sometnig to run undernieth a pair of the new Cerwin Prostax dual 15 mid-highs. He will probably power them with a EP2500. The one option will be a 184, but PD's not avalable in SA. Its either Fane or P-Audio, I'd rather not want him to go the Eminence way... The other option is to go withe this one of mine: http://www.speakerplans.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4850&a mp;PN=1. Then replace the 18 with something like the P-Audio E-18-600.
WHAT YA SAY? |
