another 12v system

Hello,

after lurking on the forums for some time I decided to post my take on the 12 volt sound system :) It seems many people have had the same idea this year

Here's my system on last weekends party:

The drivers are peerless xxls12 car sub on a 135liter oversized reflex box tuned to around 35hz, mid is p.audio hp-10w on a 14l sealed box and top is celestion cdx1-1415 comp loaded on a celestion 90x40 horn. Amp is blaupunkt velocity v7000 340 watt car amp and crossed over with a jvc active crossover. Power is from optima 55Ah deep cycle battery. The system is very heavy, weighs around 70kg But with wheels it's manageable..

It performed very good! The only thing is the battery life, have to get another battery for extended use. I was looking on some nice cheapo 110Ah batt for times I need more time to blast. With this 55Ah deep cycle leisure batt I can get around 3 hours of loud reggae/dubstep blasting out of it. Not the most efficent box but it sure performs very nice!

Got some good tips from here and from pfl, another user here, so thanks for everyone :) My first build so i'm pretty stoked about it. Most definetly not the last one.. ;)

that would be the sub + inefficent amp..  I'm thinking of getting some tripath amps for it at some point, I'm sure the run time will go up after that.

thats a lovely design.  and by the sounds on the video, it throws the sound out.  to get more running times, high pass it at 60hz and adjust tuning to 60hz too.  you'll probably gain a few hours of usage time and will sound more efficient too.  i bet that peerless sounds amazingly warm.

why have some of you got blurry faces?

yeah I can see from the video that the sub is sinking a lot of power with huge excursion, and I suspect at those frequencies without a horn you get very little if any sound from that. high pass the whole thing at 60hz + as suggested.

one thing with your design is that it does look a bit pro, and as such the police will love to take it away. I have found that the less pro you look, the more the police assume 'just some guys/gals mucking about' and let it be....

btw dont be tempted to put batteries in parallel in order to 'double' the running time, it doesnt quite work as one would think and the results aren't so good. Get a decent battery the capacity you need - straight up car battery is cheapest option although at 100a/h you will need another trolley :-)

Yeah the police are pretty easygoing about it, actually there was a few police at the park when we started but they just glanced at the blaster and went away! 

It's true that the lower bass notes get inaudible after maybe 6-8 meters, so I'll try to hipass around 50-60 and see how the batt performs after that :) I can always change the highpass when needed, as I also use it for personal fun when the distance and battery life is not that much of an issue. The bass is decently heavy in 3 meter radius and also is able to produce some physical sensation which I didn't really expect. So maybe I'll raise the tuning to around 40-45hz and then adjust the highpass according to use. Thanks for feedback!
